Hi, I know this isn't exactly the right forum for this, but given I am using an Asus a8jm with Bluetooth, i figured its hopefully similiar to a w3j with bluetooth anyway.
I recently purchased a microsoft elite for bluetooth keyboard, online from ebay, cost = 1 dollar yeah I'm cheap. It worked fine up until today, it does turn batteries into battery acid once every month or so, but you pay what you get I suppose.
I installed it by adding a new device and enabling it via the bluetooth connection window, it then asks for an authentication password that you type with the bluetooth keyboard + enter and works as long as its in range, with sufficient battery power.
Today I noticed while playing Oblivion the arrow keys weren't exactly working right, the left and up keys would work together, but the right and up keys wouldn't, kind of annoying anyway, i deleted the connection and tried to reinstall it the same way I did the first time. Everything worked exactly as it did before, however when I try to enter the authentication password it doesn't seem to recognize I'm typing.
I'm pretty sure it still works fine and it connects, but I cannot get past the authentication line to use it. I've tried new batteries, deleting and re-enabling, and I've played around with the options and still no solution. If anyone could offer any help it would be apprieciated, I hate myself for creating this problem over something so trivial.

Usually the passcodes for those are "0000" or something..... I've had problems with junky bluetooth devices, but even though you got it "cheap", it's still an ok keyboard unless it was used and maybe somehow a little screwy to begin with - for a $1, I wouldn't doubt it...... maybe the same thing was happening to the person who sold it?!
Anyway..... if you can't enter the passcode or it's not recognizing it - you've got a problem........ so it is not letting you enter the passcode or is it coming back that it's incorrect? I'd try taking out the batteries, letting it sit a while..... then trying it again. -
it didn't come with any cds and I can't seem to find driver help anywhere also.
Proportable, yeah its a random authentication code sometimes ranging from 3-6 numbers that go from 1-9. I've reconnected it before and its different authentication passwords every time. I guess I'll let it sit for a while without battery power and see what that does anyway, I'm pretty much out of ideas atm -
oh and it seems like its just not registering I'm typing, although it says its connected, just needs to be authenticated. You can't actually see what you are typing to verify you are typing the correct code, it just has a menu listing the authentication code and the Microsoft pin its recognizing. When it use to work, I'd type it in blind and press enter, then it would finish installing and work fine.

Oh ok.... it's a pop up window that basically says something like "type this passcode and hit enter" ? Where the letters and numbers you push come up on the screen as dots just so you know you pressed a key, right? That's the whole thing.... all bluetooth keyboards are going to be like that.. it's a security type thing. As long as you're hitting the right keys, I won't worry about it, but I can tell you from experience that I wouldn't try to type it fast or you're likely to screw it up.... do one letter at a time and make sure caps lock aren't on.... one letter, one finger at a time....
