Have you tried downloading the driver from the Asus website?

I'm not sure where you can buy this particular module. I know the Asus estore has the BT183 modules for $15, but not the BT253.

That's weird that the driver doesn't work for you. I also have XP SP3 and my bluetooth works just fine.

FYI, the manufacture of the BT module is Broadcom. The driver version i'm using is 5.5.0.4300. You may want to try that if you currently have a different driver.

Where did you get the 5.5.0.4300? all I can find is drivers: 5.5.0.3200 or 5.5.0.4400

    I'm using XP Home SP3.

It's odd, because the 5.5.0.4300 came preloaded on my 1000HE, however the drivers disk is loaded with 5.5.0.4400.

One thing I'd do is try reinstall the driver 4400 driver in safe mode. Make sure you uninstall any current BT driver first.

for people that reformat and install XP pro sp3
    I got the 3200 working
you have to download HD audio driver direct from realtech in order to work too.

PS: the 4400 doesn't installl with Window XP pro sp3
