    Hey all,

Just got a black W5A and in love with it.

2 questions about this W5A and built-in Bluetooth Module (I will call it BT now)

    1. Is it possible to use this BT to use as dial-up modem using the BT connection?? I have a cingular service with V600 BT capable phone. I also have internet service with Verizon and have unlimite dial-up access.

How do I actually go about doing this?? I made a connection setting and it dials from W5A and gets disconnected like 2 seconds later. Is Cingular stops me from doing this or am I missing something here??

    2. I can connect W5A with V600 using BT and I would like use file transfer features with this.

I can connect and move files to V600 but I can not seem to the opposite. I can't move file from V600 to W5A. The installed program only allows me to move files to the phone but not from phone to W5A.

Do I need another program for this?? If so, what is it??

Or Am I doing something wrong??

If anyone has solution for this, I would greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

Don't know about your situation in particular, but Verizon is notorious for crippeling BT (like the Dial-Up Networking profile) in several of their handsets. If the phone is recogniced as a dialup device by the notebook this may not be the issue, though. Could just be a settings problem, or that your subscription plan doesn't support data calls. The V600 is not listed on their 'Wireless Data' support page, so I'd just contact them and ask before spending a lot of time trying out stuff (perhaps) in vain.

CK, good luck with that...... you're going to have more problems with your phone than with the computer. I have a razr with cingular and it pairs with the computer but doesn't seem to want to work 80% of the time....... I think it's mainly an issue with Motorola's software..... On the other hand I've got an Asus p505 pocket pc phone and that works like cake.....

My other BT experience is with an Asus MyPal 730w, my sony t630 cell, my sony headset and multiple bt gps kits that I tested..... basically all of these worked great..... If you find a good way to pair motorola stuff, let me know how you did it because BT has been my pet project for the last 6 months or so... I've successfully used as many as 5 bt devices at the same time......... they weren't all paired to just one unit, but the whole no wires thing is something I'm into......

Anyway, good luck with it... right now I'm not sure if there's a good solution yet, but I'd be happy to find one.

Now about verizon..... weren't they limiting BT for just a headset or just file transfer or something like that?

    Justin,

You got Asus p505 pocket pc phone?? I'm guessing it is a GSM phone??

I didn't know that they are already availble in the US. Or did you get it from overseas??

I want one of those. I don't like the Treo 650 too much but the Asus P505 looks nice.

    How much is it??

BTW, the issue with Verizon seemed like it's confirmed. They are limiting BT access and not many people have good experience with this.

    It stinks...

I can pair with W5A and V600 without a problem but it's just that I can only move files into the phone but no opposite.

On the other hand, with my desktop using Belkin USB adapter, I can pretty much do anything I want. I can move files both ways with no problem.

But of course I haven't tried dial-up access with it though.

    Thanks all

The p505 is gsm, yes. They aren't available in the US yet. I've had three of them actually, the oldest dating back to around christmas time. I am and have been heavily involved with Asus' pocket pc team in the US since we help start them here a few years back........ I help beta test for them. With the p505 I was lucky guy who got to test the p505's reception, bluetooth capabilites and overall pocket pc performance in the north east corridor. Delays have crippled this thing but it's an awesome device and it does things that I've never seen on any other device........ for instance you can have like a 6 person conference call all originating from your unit....... The software is neat also... it'll display a conference table and it'll show pictures of the people you're talking to (you know if you have their face associated with their contact info)........ and that's just the start of it.

Anyway...... I think we're within a month of debuting it in north america..... $650 is supposed to be the cost for the unit... PPC performance is about 4x that of the best ppc phone on the market....... it's a pretty good size.... great battery life (which is odd) but the unit can be physically off and an incoming call will turn it on....and it has an awesome interface w/ a great screen.

    Anyway....... enough about that....

What are you trying to transfer onto the computer?

Can't wait to see P505 in the US. I will be one of the 1st one to get it when it comes out.

It's actually good thing that it's coming out soon since I was debating if I should get the Treo 650 or not.

Do you know if any of current cellphone company will carry this or would it just be available as user purchased PDA/Phone?? Possibly with 850MHz band support??

Have you had a chance to compare it with Treo650?? I'd like to know the actual size if possible. The Treo 650 is good size I think.

Also $650.00 is about the same price as current Treo 650 anyway.

    ----------------------------------

I wanted to move pictures from the V600. It's nothing like mission critical data or anything but just wanted to move the pictures taken out from the phone for my wife. The V600 was my wife's phone and she just got a new Samsung phone.

    Thanks again

    wellVersed,

I bought it from Proportable and the cost was $1649 + shipping.

And I know that there are other places where you can get it little cheaper but I wanted to deal with good vendor that I can trust.

The shopping experience was good. Easy, smooth and fast. Read my last thread.

Strange, I sent you an email specifically asking if a mouse like the S5a mouse came with the black W5a and you confirmed that. I'm a bit confused.

    wellVersed,

You are right. I had both W5A and TM3002WTCi.

Well just to the point, I got rid of the TM3002.

It's actually a long story. I first had a white W5A and decided to let it go since I couldn't stand the whiteness. More like I couldn't handle the whiteness.

So I bought a TM3002 after reading and researching. At first, I was in love with TM30002 but I noticed that the fan would not stop spinning and pretty loud.

I don't mind the machine running hot but being loud, I couldn't stand any longer. There was this constant high pitch noise that would not stop.

So I decided to go back to W5A but later I found out that they have black model in the US as well. I thought it was only available to Asia market but wrong. Proportable and another vendor in CA had black model in stock.

Anyway as for the size comparison, both are about the same size. I thought W5A will be much bigger since it has the built-in camera but wrong again. W5A is slightly bigger than TM3002.

TM 3002 looks thinner since it lacks ODD. But it's only the front part of the machine that is thinner. The back is actually thicker.

The W5A has hard coated screen and looks much better than TM3002. Both are 1280x800. As for the screen, you gotta see it to compare. But if you prefer matte finish, you'd like TM3002.

And obviously, W5A is bit heavier with the built-in ODD but not by much.

But if the TM3002 wasn't loud, I would have kept it.

The only con that I can think of - W5A

    1. No user accessible mini-pci slot (kind of annoying but getting used to it)
    2. Only 1 RAM slot (this also is strange... Not from Asus!!)
    3. White mouse rather than black
    4. It seems like only "cordless mouse for notebook" is compatible with built-in RF receiver. I have Logitech V500 mouse and there is no way that I can connect this thing using the built-in receiver. Does any one know how to??

    Hope this helps.

It's dualband... 900 and 1800 I think..... honestly worked basically every where between Scranton, PA - Washington, DC - NYC - Boston.... I know you're in Jersey, but the phone worked all through there...

It's thicker than the treo... dimensions can all be found probably in a review that mobile review.... I think this is the link. http://www.mobile-review.com/pda/review/asus-p505-en.shtml

Right now, it's only going to be sold through us with some other dealers probably picking them up after release.... so far it's NOT something that they have made any contracts with cingular or t-mobile..

We'd have to find a customer wanting an S5 who would prefer the white mouse...... that might not be easy..... Asus wants all of these units to be sold exactly the same... so unless someone wanting an S5 specifically wants asks for a different mouse... it's a tough one. We don't have a bunch of each, that's the big deal.

Well CK, there are plenty of s5 owners here and at notebook forums.... I'm sure someone who recently bought one would be more than willing to trade as that part isn't the easiest to just pick up... I'm not sure Asus offers it as a seperate item. I'll check and let you know.

Why would you want that? Just to have another? I didn't see any Asus notebooks listed under the supported machines listing... it'd be somewhat of a gamble just to not have that "stamp of approval"... but power is power.

You know what.... some people say the only mouse that works on the RF is the mouse that comes with the unit... but I think it's just a drivers issue anyway.......

But if you want the same mouse, why don't you look at the source? Logitech makes them.... they are the V200....... which is basically every mouse on the page I link to below except for 3 of them..... $40 (that's what your's are worth by the way) .....

    Thanks for the info

As a matter of fact, I already own 2 other Logitech mouse already. 1 V500 and 1 V200 Cordless mouse and now 3rd is the white one from Asus.

The V500 does not work with integrated receiver but the other V200 does. Although I have to re-run the connection util whenever I switch between the 2 cordless mouse but it does work without a problem

I just wanted the black one since the W5A is black and V200s are white and blue.

Do you know if W5A will work with V500??

    Thanks

Yeah... the Asus mouse is the v200... I would assume you'd be able tos ee that... They do make one of those in black, right? What color v200 do you have?

Have you tried installing the drivers for the v500? You shouldn't have to, but .. let me look into that.

    Justin,

I own a blue V200 mouse. I also installed the driver for V500 but it didn't help. I just can't seem to connect with integrated receiver.

But of course using USB receiver, it's 100% fine.

And yes. They make the V200 in black. Also in red and the color called onyx or something. I think it's glossy black almost like the mirror finish on the PC cases.

Well I'm going to Compusa and picking up one of those black one tomorrow.

    My 3rd V200... hmmm...

    Thanks

By the way, I'm checking to see if these mice are something we might be able to offer as a spare part... just incase.

    Guys:

Okay, so the W5a uses the V200.

Does the S5x use the V500? All I know is that mouse is one slick looking mouse. I'm all about uniform branding too. You can tattoo ASUS on whatever you want in that box. As long as it says ASUS.

Umm... the S5's use the same mouse.. always have...... the V500 has a different shape.... but the S5 could "use" it..... The S5 doesn't have built-in RF, it uses a usb RF dongle.... so you could buy any RF mouse and use the dongle that comes with the mouse.........

Oh that was my misunderstanding. That black ASUS mouse, the one that comes with the S5, looked smaller than the one that came with the W5. I suppose I was mistaken. So they are both V200s. Thanks.

    Well well... I was wrong.

The mouse that is given by Asus with W5A and Logitech V200 are 2 different models.

V200 surely resembles to "Cordless mouse for notebook", I think they share the body design, but it's not the same thing.

V200 is one of the recent release from Logitech (as a matter of fact, it was released later than V500) but defintely not the samething as the Cordless mouse for notebook.

It has a compartment for the USB receiver and tilt-wheels that you can customize with diffrent settings.

And the most important thing is - it does not work with W5A's integrated RF receiver.

    Therefore it's going back tomorrow...

It's more like my mistake with the names.

I thought the Cordless mouse for notebook is V200.

I just thought that it was the same thing since they look very very similar to each other.

So instead of writing "cordles mouse for notebook (the actual model is called "cordless optical mouse for notebook"), I just called it as V200.

well my stupid mistake and have to return it

Heop there's no restocking fee for this...

Oh...... yeah they do have both of those listed on the site don't they? ... do those other mice you have are the "cordless optical mouse for notebooks" then, right? Ever thing to take one of them... as you have a spare... take it apart, go get some satin black spray paint and paint the thing? I've done it many times and honestly, that's all that's done to these mice in the first place........ If you a couple of LIGHT coats and I stress LIGHT....... you'll get a better and longer lasting finish than the mouse you got with your system. I would get Rust-oleum spray paint for plastics....... it's perfect..... stain black. If you can even get your hands on or make an asus logo out of vinyl, if you put it on the mouse and spray over it........ you can peel it off when you're done and you've got yourself a nice Asus branded mouse.

Yeah I've done that a few times myself too.

A mouse is first time but with CD Bezels and PC cases.

    You are right, Justin.

Some spray paint with little patience would do the magic. Saving $40.00 at the end.

Thanks a lot for all the inputs and thoughts.

Try it and post a picture when you're done... others would love to see the process. I'm sure of it.

    I will.

It's just that it's really humid here so I will wait until it's sunny and dry.

    Thanks
