    Hello,

I have an N61jq and I would like to boot from an external USB drive.
I accessed the BIOS (while the USB drive was attached) .
But in the boot options, I could only find the internal sata drive and the dvd-rom.

How do I make the BIOS atleast detect the USB drive?

looking forward to a quick response :)

    cheers
    Suvir

suvirj Make sure the Flash drive is in with the computer is off. Turn on the computer and press ESC key, and menu will come up and you can choose the flash drive. (this is good for 1 time use)
If you want to make this Permanent Power down, insert flash drive, enter the BIOS, - Boot tab- Add new Boot option- add boot option (type in a name), then create.... F10 to save. Good luck with your system in the future. Josea

Thanks for your reply. The ESC method worked and so did the BIOS method - but its not perfect.

I entered BIOS and I found my USB drive listed under the "Hard Drive BBS Properties" in the Boot menu. There were 2 options there - my internal SATA drive and the USB drive. I simply changed the order. Now, if I DO NOT remove the drive from the USB port, I can restart my system multiple times and it always detects the bootloader in it.

But if I remove the drive from the port, the system stops recognising the drive as bootable. I have to repeat what I did above to make it detect the boot loader. I do not understand why the change does not persist if I remove the drive.

    Any ideas?

    thanks!
