Check Pulp's post, he bought a F9dc a few days ago and it looks like he enjoys it so far, nevertheless, he was pleasantly surprised.

well by give, i mean i gave him $400 (and yes, it isn't the highest quality car :) cavalier with 160k miles - but a cars a car)

obviously a quality laptop is always higher in priority than a quality car....

The cheapest F9dc i could find in Canada is $966 which is pretty darn impressive, but I don't think it's in stock yet. The initial batch of F9dc was grabbed up before most dealers knew it was even there.

The AMD model was $200 cheaper than the Intel version everywhere I looked. I originally went for the Intel version (F9J-A1) but the deal fell through so I settled for the AMD. Here's how the 2 models compare as far as I could tell:

    F9Dc-A1 vs F9J-A1

    AMD Turion64 X2 TL-56 1.80G vs Intel Core 2 Duo T5500 1.66G
NVIDIA GeForce 8400M G vs NVIDIA GeForce Go 7300
    1280 x 800 lcd resolution vs 1280 x 768 lcd resolution
    Gigabit Ethernet vs 10/100 Ethernet
    HDMI port vs S-video port
No fingerprint reader/No TPM hardware security vs fingerprint reader/TPM

Upgraded the RAM to 2GB, very easy procedure on this notebook. Looks like all the internal components can be upgraded through the bottom panel. My only complaint really is how the battery sticks out in the back.

You should be looking at the F9S-A1/B1, not the J. The F9S has a Santa Rosa T7300 (A1) or T7500 (B1), the same 8400M as the Dc, and the same LCD as the Dc. Actually, the F9J has a 1280x800 screen too, so you have a wrong spec there.

I think actually, I will get the W7s instead of the F9s, since its better looking and not much bigger, and same specs and price.

    F9DC-A1 vs F9S-B1 (not the f9J)

    AMD Turion64 X2 TL-56 1.80Ghz vs Intel Centrino Duo (santa rosa) t7500 2.2ghz
    both have 128mb Nvidia 8400m G
    both 1280x800 lcd resolution
    both have hdmi
    no fingerprint/tpm vs fingerprint/tpm

not much difference really except the fingerprint and speed

and i think that the t7500 is much faster than the tl-56 by far. and plus im used to a fingerprint now and can't live without it - such a convenience :) - the $200 extra is def worth it for the 2 option upgrades

the F9S-A1 does not have HDMI and also has the slightly slower t7300 2.0ghz (still faster than the tl-56) - which i think the hdmi is a must! the speed though is no noticable difference against the t7500

Its actually like a $300 difference, but I'd pay it all the same. The T7500 is monstrously fast, whereas the turion is a lot slower, puts out more heat, and consumes more power.

Doesn't the F9Dc also have the built-in fingerprint reader?

I thought the different screen resolution was odd too but several sites state those specs:

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834220180
    http://www.excaliberpc.com/Asus_F9J-A1_Intel_Core_2_Duo_T5500/90NESA21338C6CQL700Y/partinfo-id-579434.html

The W7 caught my eye as well but I had some concern about the RAM. According to neweggs specs, it has 512MB onboard + a 1 512MB stick, max 1.5GB. So it has only 1 RAM slot in which case I'd have to dump the current 512MB stick already in there and it doesn't support 2GB sticks?

it should support 2gb sticks - but i have to figure out why they would ever solder in a ram chip, especially such a small amount

well it looks like gentech was wrong and doesnt have it in stock so i cancelled the order because i got the "probably next week". im trying to find anyone else that has it but can't. i really dont want to have move up to the sz650 or the m1330 because of the price difference because those are the only other 2 i was looking at
