I had ordered an Asus X200CA sub-notebook, and it arrived yesterday.

I noticed when I got it that the battery report (as reported by running "powercfg /batteryreport" from the command line or by looking at the power management report in AIDA64) said that the design capacity is 33.4Wh (which matches the specs printed on the battery), and that the full charge capacity has already been worn down to 30.9Wh (a 7% wear level according to AIDA64). All my other computers reported a full capacity that was the virtually identical to the design capacity when they were new.

More worryingly, the "cycle count" for the battery is reported as 328. This was the computer fresh out of the box.

Today, I discharged the battery until the system was forced to shut down, and then charged it back up to 100%, and again, the full capacity is reported as 30.9Wh instead of the expected 33.4Wh.

I purchased this system new from bestbuy.com. I couldn't detect any signs of use or wear on the system. So why does it look like I have a used battery? Unless the battery reporting is inaccurate?

Does anyone else have this laptop? If so, could you please run "powercfg /batteryreport" from the command line to see what it says? I guess if everyone has this same "problem", then maybe it's an issue with incorrect reporting. But if I'm the only who's seeing this on a new system, then I somehow ended up with a used battery.

Sometimes, the quality of battery is questionable coming out from the Chinese factory.
It's recommended that you connect ASUS directly to get the battery replaced.

Well, it turns out that a couple of other people on another forum saw the exact same thing, including a 328 cycle count (not 327, not 329, but 328). The consistency of this discrepancy leads me to believe that the problem is in the accuracy of the data being reported by the battery and not a problem with the battery itself.

I suppose you should try the charge/discharge cycle a few times and monitor, just to be sure if it's a good one or not.
Having battery with such issues are sometimes annoying and inconvenient because of the misreporting data.

The battery is most likely defective, contact point of purchase and see if you can get the battery swapped through them or not, otherwise try ASUS directly.

I'd go for a swap for a new unit from the place you got it with a DOA.

DOA is fine unless he's already got his programs and personal settings in place then it would be a hassle.

It's not the sort of problem to sit on that's for sure.
