What ASUS’ #7 Ranking Means to You

When ASUS entered the notebook market in the US a few short years ago, one thing was clear. The market was saturated with cheap gray-box notebooks, and any move into the market would require something that could make consumers say “Wow.” ASUS also had its reputation to consider, which is solid gold on the components side. So ASUS tried something radically different – combining cutting edge design with unparalleled quality, fit and finish.

This innovative approach is paying off. After spending several quarters as the country’s fastest or second-fastest growing brand, ASUS jumped to the number 7 brand-ranking based on units shipped in Q406, with 26.2% quarter on quarter growth (IDC)* In attaining the number 7 ranking, ASUS passed Fujitsu-Siemens for the quarter.

In the US the surge in notebook sales has been even more amazing, reflecting an even stronger value proposition. In April ASUS introduced North America’s best complimentary warranty and followed it up with a complimentary accidental damage warranty - without raising the price of their laptops. Combined with aggressive advertising and reseller support programs, this has led to a spectacular 310% year on year growth rate in North America.

So what does all this mean for you as a reseller? First, it means that you deserve our thanks. When our sales numbers go up, it is usually because of your hard work in promoting our products. Second, it means that you have bet on the right horse. By deciding to focus your energy on ASUS notebooks rather than a gray mass-market box, you have likely seen your revenue rise faster than they would have otherwise. As more and more people discover ASUS notebooks, you will benefit as the company that delivers those notebooks.

So let’s hear it for both of us.

Probably referring to the high-end, top quality Ensemble M, V and W series around 3-4 years ago rather than the budget / mainstream philosophy Asus has now injected into their product lineup.

I think this is something they send to their corporate partners and channel dealers (hence the subtitle Inside Information Source for Notebook Resellers). Doubt that the public can request access.

In addition, sometimes roadmap information releases have NDA's so I was surprised that this info hit the forums at all (break a NDA and Asus will come down hard, as I understand). Still, this might not have been roadmap info so it wouldn't apply.

The lack of C90p information makes me a sad panda....

I'm really surprised that there are as many C90 owners out there as there are since Asus almost refuses to recognize it in advertisements or anything. The C90p looks like it will follow the C90s with low sales due probably to only word of mouth advertising.

I think asus may be looking to back out of the barebone market for a few reasons
    1. majority of the dealers do not abide by the asus "dealer warranty barebones" policy, asus them selves can not tell end users "go to your dealer" after all most of their dealers dont know anything about warranty and support.
    2. they had a large number of c90s issues. It cost them alot of time and money to remedy them and all that is bad considering they are not responsible for barebone warranty.
you might see one or 2 barebones come out but compared to their ensemble line they will not be any more desirable or less expensive'
