i just got my new asus v6j this thursday, and i've allready found a dead pixel :(

i'm not sure yet if i'm going to take advantage of the zbd warranty, but if it won't take too long i will.

also i find that the colors look kind of "washed out" compared to my 4 years old dell 151fp flatscreen standing next to it. i've tried adjusting it with the asus spledid utility, but i don't get any satisfying result. turning up brightness makes the colors look strange, turning it down makes the white look gray.

does anyone have advice on how to improve this? help!

thanks for your reply coriolis! but the v6j has a nvidia graphics adapter. the color management of the nvidia driver is in my opinion not usable, the brightness and contrast setting behave very strange.

what i also find strange is that there is no display driver coming with the v6j, it's just running as 'Plug & Play Display'. maybee there is a icm profile which could be used?

anyway i got to a pretty good result with the asus splendid utility, which has very limited settings.

    here's my custom profile:

    based on 'Soft Mode'
    red: 7
    green: 8
    blue: 8
    color temperature: 9300k

not as good as my old lcd, but i could live with it :)

vinzer, my suggestion is to just bite the bullet and send your unit in and just wait.

Only way to solve your problem. I noticed that if anybody experiences washed out colors and such at default color settings then something is wrong with the LCD.

My previous screen was like this, all washed out and yellowy, also had the red ghosting problem. With my new screen everything is A-Okay. Freakin' looks great~! I found one stuck pixel, but it's freakin' almost impossible to see, unless I'm on a specific shade of grey and am about 1mm from the screen.

I'm actually starting to believe it was just a spec of water, spit, coke, beer, or something because I can't find it anymore.

Also remember if you have a dead or stuck pixel you can fix it yourself with the stuck pixel fixer. Google it. Some guy came up with a little video you play on loop that just fires off different colors very rapidly and many people have found that it unsticks the stuck pixel. Of course it won't fix all stuck pixels, but many have found that it works.

Give it a try, and if it doesn't work send in your unit.

Better yet, since you say your screen is washed out, just send it in.

    Cheers,
    Mike

Vinzer, to correct the colour and brightness settings you can use the Nvidia graphics controller. Open the Display properties; right click the desktop, click "properties". Open the settings tab. With the display box, click "Advanced", and then click "Nvidia go7400". In this menu you can adjust gamma, brightness, digital vibrance and contrast.
    Hope that helps,
    Steve

yeah, that's what i've done now! parcel logistics came by this morning to pick up my notebook. kind of hard to give it away after beeing together for just one week ;)

i've adjusted it with the nvidia driver too. the results were pretty good, better than with the asus splendid utility, but still i believe there was something wrong with my old screen. the viewing angle was so small that i couldn't even move my head...

hopefully the new one will be better.

i will keep you updated on how it looks when i receive it (hopefully) next week.

    thanks for your support!

The W3V has the same viewing angle where if you move you head it changes. so your screen may be justa normal V6J screen.

Awwwww, can't part with your baby eh? That's how I felt after sending her in for the first time.

Don't worry she'll be fine. Hope you took pictures of her though, as my baby came back with scratches on the bottom.

Hard to prove I didn't do them since I didn't notice them when I went to pick her up from my reseller.

    Cheers,
    Mike

Hmm... my V6J screen looks as if it needs a bit more life :) But I never thought anything could be wrong with it. I figured it's because of the plain SXGA+ no Color Shine or anything...

How exactly should it look if it had a problem?
