So the left click button on my asus z35f only responds to a click maybe once every 20 clicks. Before it wasn't as sensitive on parts of the button but it was a lot more responsive than it has become.

Has anyone ever experienced a similar problem or does anyone know of a possible solution? TIA

Try reinstalling the ATK driver, and also updating to the latest Synaptics touchpad driver too.

Since the Z35F has been discontinued for a couple years, I would suspect the buttons are failing and needs to be replaced. Like clearskies mentioned, try reinstalling the touchpad drivers first. If that doesn't work, it's most likely a hardware issue and needs to be replaced. The touchpad buttons are actually part of the top case module and can be purchased from the Asus estore for $30. You could also send it to Asus for repairs, but that would probably cost you extra since your notebook should be out of warranty.

Thanks for the quick replies guys. I'll go ahead and try to reinstall/update the drivers but I suspect it might be a hardware problem seeing it just gradually got worse.

The picture of the top case module is a little blurry. Is that replacing the entire top case (minus the keyboard) and if so, would that mean I'd have to remove the LCD as well?

Also it doesn't specify a specific color. I know the z35 came in charcoal chassis as well. I suppose I could give them call and ask before ordering.

Yes, it's the entire top case minus the touchpad and keyboard. I remember not having to remove the screen before dismantling the top case on my Asus M50, but I'm not positive if that's the same in your case.
I would definitely give them a call and ask prior to ordering the part :)

So it's most likely a hardware problem. The button occassionally works if you press on it really hard and right in the center. Do you guys think it's a problem with the button or connector? It just doesn't feel as solid as the right click button.

I'm a little hesitant in removing the top case. Is there a guide out there that shows you how to remove the top case, preferably with pictures? Can I leave everything intact and just remove the top case or would I have to remove the keyboard first?

Also, how much do you think it would be to try and get a laptop repair store to fix this?
