Looking for a new laptop, and just wondering if the F3JP or A8JP would have better build quality.

The only thing holding me back from getting the A8JP right now is what I have heard about its durability... :(

    Thanks all

All I know is I just got two F3JP and (while I haven't messed around with them too much yet), I can say that I love the build quality. Sure it may not be the G1, but the quality is still absolutely excellent compared to any Toshiba or Dell I have seen.

    they are very similar.

Probably made from the same factory on the same day.

The f3j has some aditional material its kind of perforated plastic on the edge

the a8j has a shinier paint that looks nice when new.

They are both pretty average.I have no complaints about my A8Jp build quality, major disappointment with it's screen.

The build quality is fine as far as I can tell on the a8jp. Remember that people are a lot more vocal about negative things than positive things, and a lot of people have a8j* notebooks. The a8jp screen is no different from many other 14" notebooks - unfortunately 14" screens aren't quite the best.

That's correct, The W3J, A8 series, V2Je, are all using basically the same screen, it just looks and feels a little different from laptop to laptop. Currently the V2Je screen looks quite good. You can have a look at the review, its in my signature. It has pictures that compare the 3 laptops.

As for build quality, you will find them to be roughly the same, and yes the A8jp has a shiny coat on the lid which gives it some extra character to it.

Thanks for all the replies all.

Another quick question: Would the A8JP/F3JP be prone to damage if I was to bring it around my campus? Or should it be fine, as long as I don't abuse it?

The F3Jp looks like it can get a bit scratched in the long run, but I've been treating it with kid gloves. I put a plastic film on the lid the day I got it, and it's been a couple of months(almost). The rest of the notebook's fine, without any protection. No scratches, discolourations in the palmrest area/ touchpad. I carry it around the campus all day in my backpack.

The lid of the F3J does scratch pretty easily, but because of the color of the lid it is hard to see any scratches if the lighting and angle aren't perfect. I'm pretty anal about scratches, but the few I picked up going through airport security and such aren't bothering me because of their low visability.

I've been carrying around an A8JP using the included bag (which most would say has little to no protection) and it has been fine. As long as you don't abuse it you should be OK.

My F3Jp has taken a 1-2 foot tumble or two (damn cats). Falls that made my heart race but didn't cause any problems with the PC itself. Holds up fairly well under continual use and after being hauled around quite a bit. I've noted a slight flex in one of the corners, but just barely, and it might be just that i was picking at it.
