I was just curious about the build quality on this one. I read somewhere that the surface around the mouse pad is aluminum. Does someone know more about this, thanks.

You can look at the pictures on our site.... if you're interested in the notebook and don't know what it looks like.... that's always a good place to start. The entire system is carbon fiber by the way.

I just received a W5ae. The surface around the track pad is metal, don't know if its aluminum, but that would not in my mind be related to build quality.

More intriguing is the answer from Justin saying that this is a carbon fibre case! I don't know if that is the case, but it surely feels quite solid.

... yeah the touchpad surrounds are basically all brushed aluminum on all of our notebooks now.... and for the most part, all of the systems are entirely carbon fiber as well....... especially the w5.....

.. On that note... Did anyone notice tha the W5ea won a design around at this years CES? Asus said it was one of two notebooks this year that won the award.

Well, one/won or 1. I for one  forgot to mention that I bought the W5ae from ProPortable based on the extensive discussions on this bored. Or is it board?

That's really amazing that most all of the Asus books use carbon fiber. Asus has a new press release stating that the W6a is the 'first' carbon fiber laptop... I thought Sony's two pounder was the first a year ago.

At any rate this carbon fibre body is quite interesting in addition to being strong. Not like the Sony's non carbon, nor like the ibooks or aluminum powerbooks. Somewhat to me at least feels almost organic, which presumably carbon is (organic that is).

Yea, using all Carbon fibre is awesome, especially on almost all their models now.

They deserve many awards, each laptop have their own distinctive taste and feeling, I don't understand why they only won so few!
