I am very interested in the built on Asus units. I have always liked Asus and would like try putting a laptop togather. however, I have heard conflicting reports as to the quality of the built on Asus laptops. Can a Asus dealer give me an idea how the built on Asus and ensemble units compare in quality? I am very picky about my laptops and would want somthing approaching the w3j in quality.

The chassis, I dont' think so. The internal parts depend on the reseller.

I believe your refering more towards chasis comparisons from Ensembles and Built Ons.

The answer has many parts because ASUS has a lot of models, so I will try to break it down.

About 1 year ago, the ASUS Z70va is a built-on with high build qaulity because of the carbon fibre chasis, the ensembles like the W series has carbon fibre and aluminum parts, thus also making them high quality.

This year as you already know ASUS has the Z96j, S96j and the Ensemble unit F3 series, the chasis on these are the same, and the quality is good, but not as good as the W series like mentioned above.

However when comparing Built-ons and then ensembles, the ensembles do have better quality in the W series, and V series, the A series and F series are of lower quality but are still good when compared to other brands.

As previously mentioned going Built-on you can place any brand/quality parts into the laptop as you like, which is nice for the end users. Ensemble components are at standard or above standard compared to other brands.

Thanks MileStonePc, i was wondering about the chasis quality. I would like to try and build a laptop, just for fun. Will there be any aluminum/carbon fiber built on's coming out soon?

"Just for fun". It sounds like you're going to construct some Lego or something :D.
