Just wondering how bad the effect on battery life is when the built-in bluetooth is turned on. - Like for using a bluetooth mouse.

Very good question.. in my experience I see about an 18 minute difference with bluetooth and wifi on verses off..... and that's over a 4 hours period.... that's less than an 0.75% difference... not bad really.

Same, I have BT and Wireless on and not being used, and even then, the battery is sufficient :)

But if you want every last trickle, it can give you a good 15-30 mins more

    I think that's more like 7.5% not 0.75% difference. :D

Thanks... yeah it's 7.5%.... but... like I said, it's about 18 minutes on 4 hours... obviously the decimal place was messed up but the important fact is the relatively little difference it makes - while the heavy use of wifi and bt greatly outweigh the effects of the overall life... that's all.

.... all models, and um... constant usage.... if it's on, it's using power. Battery life on different models will vary, but they'll use about 7.5% of the power over it's life. So with a small system with a 3 cell battery and 2 hours of life... it'll use about 9 minutes of that two hours...

An active bluetooth connection will use about a Watt and a half. 1W transmit power, plus some to keep the electronics going, loss to heat and so on. Thus, with the typical power consumption under moderate use being ca. 20W (3.5 hours on a 71W/Hr battery) the 7.5% figure sounds spot on to me.
