What are the benefits of buying a product from your own country. I mean other than shipping charges and the chance of brokerage fee's is there anything else I should be concerned with? I live in Canada but am contemplating buying from a US site if they offer free shipping. Anyone help?

Does warranty carry over to different countries?

I calculated several places and with the duties included, it wasn't advantageous to buy from the States. I've found that it is simpler and more cost effective to buy it here instead, plus you know that your warranty is good. (Unless you drive there and do not declare your purchase :) )

Yeah, I'd stick with MilestonePC or NCIX .. Shipping from the US is just expensive and risky. I had a great experience with MilestonePC .. good service, fast shipping :)

    Cheers.

thats only applies if you have the item shipped. Then when its shipped you have to pay the tax of the province its shipped to.

if you purchase and take with you you still have to pay the take in that province.

Either way you still have to pay PST

No idea what you are talking about. I am in Vancouver, and when I buy from Toronto, I only pay for the GST.

Ok, youre in Van... If you walk into (if you were to be vacationing here) a Toronto store and buy the G1S you HAVE TO pay both the Ontario GST and PST. Unless youre a native indian, live on a reserve and have a tax exempt card.

If youre in Vancouver and call a retailer in Ontario to have it shipped to you then they will only be charge the GST. But once the G1S gets to your door you will have to pay the Vancouver PST.

All retailers are to report the tax transfer when shipped. If they dont and get audited then they up the shiet-creek.
What this means is when the courier delivers the G1S, They (CanadaPost, Purolator, UPS etc) will ask you for the PST.

Understand the retailer is responsible to send taxes to the gvmnt. If say.... Milestone ships to you with only GST charged and gets audited they will be asked why they didnt remit the PST to the federal gvmnt

    hope this clears it up

    http://www.rev.gov.bc.ca/ctb/Pay_PST/index.htm
According to that, PST is remitted by the buyer afterward. I guess they had new law that require courier to collect PST now.

I did some reading and found out that online stores are suppose to register in BC and collect PST. I doubt milestonepc knows that. Now I have to pay 13% tax, I rather go for US retailers and get free shipping + cheaper price.

As mentioned, I'm in Toronto, and I buy often from NCIX, a Vancouver online store. I only need to pay the GST which is 7%, unlike if I buy from, lets say, Canada Computers, an Ontario based online store.

Same here, I never ever have to pay PST from online retailers outside my province. I save a lot of money that way! (And GST is 6% not 7%, at least here in Quebec)

I've mail ordered lots of sporting equipment from Toronto, shipped to Nova Scotia. I've never had to pay anything other than GST, ever.

Does Dell count? I bought something from them, it was shipped from Ontario, yet I got charged 13% tax (I'm in Vancouver.)

I think unless you get a ridiculously good deal, buy from Canada. The hassle just isn't worth it IMO.

    understood!
Im aware that its buyer submit and its up to you to do the right thing. Buts its the gvmt and who really cares these days about whats right for them :p
Anyways, my grandmother ordered 2 things from a specialized sewing machine company located in Quebec and each time when the item was delivered from CanadaPost she was given a pst tax remittance form and told she had to fill out. Maybe thats just canada post considering its gvmnt
