I've gone through Newegg before with my laptop. They are fast and reliable. I am not familiar with BTOtech though.

    For $20, go with BTO.

Asus resellers tend to have better technical support than newegg or best buy. If your Asus should encounter any issues, you can always contact your reseller for help instead of only relying on Asus.
That mentioned, there are other reputable Asus resellers for you to choose from. Check out the Asus Info Booth for a list of resellers.
I personally would choose the reseller route and have purchased many laptops from GenTechPC. Their service is just as fast as Newegg's, but with better personalized customer support with almost instant replies to all my e-mail/message inquiries.

Most resellers (I know GenTech does), offers a 3% discount if you pay via e-check. Another way for you to save money and buy from a reseller is to purchase your notebook from the reseller's ebay store. Purchase with the live.com cashback discount to receive a rebate when you use the Buy-It-Now feature and pay with Paypal.

Let's put it this way. Both companies are excellent if you have issues with your order. However, Newegg will probably refer you to Asus if you have issues with your computer. As a reseller of Asus notebooks, I would imagine Btotech would be able to handle problems with your notebook a fair bit without having to consult Asus as much. On top of that, btotech also has fewer customers, meaning that service is generally better compared to large companies like newegg.

Yea but if I have problems with my laptop, I dont really have much of a problem going through ASUS. Are the resellers going to provide windows support? I guess thats the big thing I would be looking for since I am more likely to experience windows problems before hardware problems.

What windows problems are you referring to? If it's a windows issues relating to your hardware, eg drivers, bios, and patches, then resellers will be able to help. Either way, it would be faster to get in contact with a reseller than with Asus. For the same amount of money you're paying (less if you go with a reseller), why not opt for the laptop that comes with better support?

Just to point out, David here is the Asus fanboy. If he suggests going with a reseller, I would definitely think about it. :p If I recall correctly, he can also tell you about his personal experiences with an Asus reseller.

You're giving me too much credit here :p

As much as I enjoy purchasing from newegg due to their excellent customer support (gave me full credit for defective items purchased without having to return them), they don't offer any technical support whatsoever. I remember having an issue with my media card reader on my U6V and Asus wasn't able to provide any solution over the phone because I had a XP OS. Gentech on the other hand helped me solve the issue in a day or two. That saved me the hassle from RMAing it to Asus :)

Honestly, I prefer Newegg. Their handling time prior to shipment is the best you can get. Also, you get a totally sealed package, whereas from these resellers, they often open your package, and put their own stickers/labels on items such as the power brick and under your laptop. I prefer getting a sealed, never opened box when I purchase something new.

    Newegg FTW.

Another point to mention when compared to " Newegg Preferred Members":

7- You will get the whole money immediately whereas newegg won't.

If you are a newegg preferred member:

-You will have 6 months deferred payment with 0% interest if you purchase in between $500-$999

-You will have 12 months deferred payment with 0% interest if you purchase over $1000.

I purchased an ASUS F8VA-C1 from newegg last August and I do not have to pay a penny until August 2009 (and yes, if I pay by Aug 2009, I will not pay a cent more!!!)

I bought my G50Vt-A1 from BTO. I was originally gonna go for the X2, but Newegg kept playing their price raising games. Then I found out about the live.com cashback and combining that with no sales tax since BTO is out of state, the A1 worked out to be cheaper than the X2.

If you have went with newegg before theres no real reason to risk it on a lesser known company. Newegg has been flawless for me eveytime i have ordered from them.

Ya know, I am in the same boat here, but, to add a twist, my wife wants an Asus G50vt-X1 she seen at best buy because she loves the way that the keyboard feels. But, I want an MSI 725/727. We need the extended ADH warranty as we have 2 little kids and well, they were the death of our previous two laptops. I refuse to buy from amazon. So would prefer newegg, or a diffrent reseller. But, I did not see options for an extended ADH on any of the asus reseller's list. Another thing, a buddy of mine was telling me he saw somewhere that if you buy an asus laptop you could recive a free eeepc 2g, does anyone know about this?

    Thank you for your time,

    Alitronic

While in general this is true, it can't be farther from the truth when it comes to the resellers here in the forum who have been here for multiple years offering help and providing great assistance (you're new, so that's ok you didn't know ;)).

I'm going to jump in here - and Eddie probably knew I would since I guess I'm his biggest fan around here, while David is one of Ken's.... love and hugs, Eddie :D ;)

Either GenTech (Ken) or BTOTech (Eddie) will offer fabulous service, before and after the sale. They both have excellent reputations around here (see also ExcaliberPC) over the past nearly 4 years now that I've been llurking and/or a member of the Asus forum. I happened to purchase my W3 from Eddie so I have direct experience with his company (their resellerratings.com rating is also extremely good), but I know that Ken also is extremely capable and helpful both on the forum and to his customers. I cannot recall seeing a bad post about either of them or their companies in all the time I've been around. Afaik, all three offer paypal/cash discounts etc for purchases - you just have to search around the company website a little and find the details (or just PM/IM Ken, Eddie, or Justin about it).

For the OP and others here who might be reading the thread, please trust the experience of those who are veteran members of the forum when it comes to the question of purchasing from a reseller vs. NewEgg, BBuy, etc. You will get better service and assistance compared to the others, you will get competitive pricing, and that is worth a good bit when it comes to technology products like a notebook unless you happen to know Vista and PC's intimately in the unfortunate event that something goes wrong.

I don't personally believe in recommending one particular reseller over another here, since the three main active ones are all outstanding and one cannot really go wrong with any of them.

I think the layaway plans are available from paypal paylater and bill me later are just as good as newegg. Also you can use your own credit card with special finance terms to fund the same deal. Being newegg premier just means you sign up for their credit card. Its nice but it is certainly not a treat. Any large corporation offers the same

I'm also going to recommend buying from either Gentech or BTOtech. I bought my C90s from Ken and it was a great experience. Well, it doesnt help that Gentech is only an hour or two away! :p
