i'm currently in Taipei, been looking around a lot for a W3J or V1J notebook. Does anyone in the area have any place they can recommend? i'm thinking about buying a stock W3J With Core Duo 1.66mhz and 1gb ram and upgrading it myself to 2gb ram and Core 2 Duo if/when i deem the 1.66 isn't enough ;) tho i'll have to cop the warranty, although after using 3 asus laptops the last 8 years ive never had a single major hardware fault. The price here is still cheaper than buying in canada even after buying the extra processor!

If you can wait for a couple of weeks, I think asus will bring out W3 with merom(probable with T5500/T5600) in Taiwan. bear in mind the Asus modles in TAIWAN usually comes out with slower prcessors than NA models. but they are also a lot cheaper.

The best online price I have found is NT 42200 for the stock W3J (with T2300 1.66 GHz / 1G / 100G ). If you do not want bey it online you can use this price as a guide.

Just vist the Nova computer Mall in Taipei, there should be 5-6 Asus dealers there.

    Hope this helps.

JC, do you know how much a V6Va and V6J would run in Taiwan? I'm visiting this winter to do a study tour.

emm... I don't think they sale V6va anymore, it's an old modle.
a quick serach shows: V6j ( CD T2400 T2400/15.1 SXGA+/100G/DVD+RW/1GB), to be around NT 57999. I don't think they will update V6J to merom but I could be worng.

    personally I think the A8js (with merom T5600 1.83 GHz / 1G / 120G / DVD-Dual
nVidia Geforce Go7700) at Nt 47200 to be much more attractive from a spc and price point of view.

Who is this Jason? Is he someone on these forums who can get ASUS models which are only available in Taiwan? I ask because I am interested in getting the F3Ja, which unfortunately isn't available, and isn't likely to be available. It seems like that model is similar to the S96J, only with some minor improvements (i.e. DVI out, Fn and Ctrl keys FINALLY switched :) ).

Why not F3Jm? If you buy F3Ja, you will face the graininess problem... which has not been fixed for F3Ja up to now.

Hmm, are they similarly priced? I looked at the F3Jm, and it is priced 1700 CAD (maybe about 1800 with the upgrades I want), which is quite a bit more than I want to spend - I am ideally looking to spend 1400 CAD. I thought the buying the F3Ja from Taiwan might be less expensive.
