Looks like that may be the only place I can get it now, but as I'm Canadian I have a few questions that I hope someone can answer:

    1. If I buy from the States, am I still eligible for the Canadian citizen's rebate? Or must I buy in Canada to get the $200 rebate?

    2. Does anyone know if there are taxes/duties assessed on buy.com's shipments? Generally there is sales/provincial tax and some duty, but Tigerdirect gets around that somehow.

For the rebate, I'm not sure, but I would assume the US one should work, since its an US receipt....But check up on it first.

For customs, don't be surprised to take a 15%+ hit, more depending on the courier service.

Well, the thing is that the rebate for the US says it's only for US citizens.

I know that you get charged 15% coming across, but TD for instance has some sort of program where you don't get charged.

    1. No, you're definitely not eligible for the Canadian rebates. However, you might be eligible for the US rebates, If you buy from the US. like this one...

    http://www.geared2play.com/store/products/laptops/ensemble/v6j-w5f-rebate.pdf

Ask Justin or any other retailer in the States that has sold to Canada before If It will work. They should know.

    2. I don't know about Buy.com, Tigerdirect gets around it because they actually have warehouses here in Canada that they ship from, and a few storefront locations. So anything they bring in from anywhere else, comes in like It's going to their stores for re-sale. If you order from them online at their Canadian site, then they ship you the products from the Canadian warehouse that they use to receive all their "storefront" products at. So It comes from Canada, not the US, and their prices have already been adjusted.

In the past I've heard that If It comes by Air from the States, then you don't have to pay Duty. If It comes by land/truck, then 9 times out of 10 you have to pay Duty and Taxes. I'm almost positive that you have to pay our Taxes either way though. Again, ask a US retailer, since they sell to Canada, by now they should know exactly what has to be paid and what doesn't. There's also a few Canadians on here that have bought from the States, they might be able to give you some exact figures...I'm pretty confident in what I've said though. Good luck :)

What you're saying about TD is correct, but I think Buy also has warehouses in Canada as they have their Canadian division.

I would have to ask if having the laptop shipped from the States to a Canadian warehouse then to me would exempt me (not sure).

Interestingly, the rebate says it's valid only in the States, which might make things interesting. I might just call Asus and see.

As for customs, its really a roll of a dice. I've bought my fair share of electronics, books, magazines, devices, etc. from the States, Japan, UK, etc. and the whole custom fees thing is as random as, well, random :p

Buy does have a Canadian 'site' but its quite limited, so I don't know how that'll work. Email em and ask :)

Yeah, I did a direct search for it, and now it shows up...but If you go the category route, and choose notebooks and then Asus etc...the V6Va isn't listed, and all the other models they do list are sold out or temp. unavailable! :)
