I've recently decided that I would get hold of a notebook, this for various purposes. After asking friends of experiences and gathering as much information on the net as possible, Asus has been made a preferble choice. I've never owned a laptop before and my experience with them is brief. I know certain things I want and I see two Asus notebooks filling those needs.

So, I was wondering if I could get some inputs and comments on these two two notebooks: "Asus M6700NE" and "Asus W1700N". From the information I gathered, I see people typing w1n, and I've to assume that it's the "Asus W1700N" you're refering to. Please correct me if it ain't so. As I said, I'am not very good at notebooks :)

Comparing those to each other, they seem kinda simillar in performance to my needs. My needs would be multimedia usage, few games and occasionall office work.

In the specs I got, the M6700NE got ati9700 and W1700N ati9600. I got on my stationary a 9800pro, I don't expect the notebook to perform as good as a stationary computer, but I've experience that on stationary computers the 9600 and 9700 aint that much of a diffrence. Your input on this please.

The processor. The M6700NE got M1,5Ghz and the W1700N got M1,7Ghz. Slight diffrence, but I'am somewhat convinced that each will perform close to each other. I also want inputs on this if I'am way of.

The Display. This I'am way lost on. I really want a good display that can use high res, and the only res number I managed to find is the 1280x800 that W1700N support. Please explain a bit, the benefits of the W1700N widescreen and how well both displays perform.

The harddrive. Both got 80GB, more than I could ask for so I guess it's fine. However, I want to make sure that they won't produce to much heat that would give my laps third degree burns.

Optical drive. Only thing I require is that it reads CD/DVD, the rest is just a bonus that I would leave out if I could knock of few bucks.

Network and such. From what I've gathered, both has regular network adapters, WLAN and IrDa. So I'am fine here.

Chipset. Both got the same, so I guess it doesnt matter. All I wonder if this chipset (Intel 855PM & ICH4-M) is a good chipset in general.

Battery and size. The battery I got diffrent views on. I guess all I'am wondering how long will they last on each notebook, when playback of a normal .avi file. The fact that W1700N is a bit bigger don't bother me, so it won't affect my decission.

Audio and interface. Audio seems resonable on both. The interface part matters less. All I need is USB and as said above, regular network, WLAN and IrDa.

I would really apprichiate some help on chosing one of these notebooks. Your input on the diffrent things I mentioned, and comments on your experience is very mu apprichiated. I want to buy one as soon as possbile so I aint much for holding for the next line of series. The price doesnt matter between those two.

I'll excuse myself on grammar errors and if something is a bit hard to grasp. I'am not native but trying my best. I'll look back as much as I can to reply and explain myself further

If you read to here, thank you very much :)
