There are a lot of threads about where to buy this notebook, what I want to know is should I save a couple hundred and buy a regular G1, or spend a little bit more and get the G1S

Newegg has the G1 for $1700, and if you buy it open box, its only $1500. The cheapest G1S is $1805, but it will take a lot longer to ship, and I'm worried about buying it from a seller I've never heard of. Newegg has it for $1900. Is it worth the extra $100-$200 for the G1S? Also, has anyone bought an "open box" item from Newegg? If its basically the same as a regular product, then its $300-$400 cheaper. Any help is appreciated!

If the unknown reseller you're worried about is Lagoom.com, then well I wordered my G1s from them, and so far so good. Their free shipping took exactly one week, and nothing was broken or damaged.

Their shipping took one week from the day you ordered it, or the day they shipped it? Just wondering cause I need to make sure I know about the time it would come

i highly suggest you spring for the g1s; it has a stronger cpu (7500) built on the new santa rosa platform and a superior graphics card (8600m gt). i just got my g1s the other day and i must admit it's the best $2000 i have ever spent.

for notebooks, i personally wouldn't buy an open box, but i don't see why there would be that big of a problem if they're reselling it. that decision is all up to you. as for sellers you've never heard of, i also highly recommend xoticpc.com and gentech computers. they both give you a lot of options, provide great customer service, and ship on time at affordable prices.

    hope that helps!

If the G1 you are talking about is the last gen model, I would get the G1s, as undoing_ruin stated, stronger cpu, gfx (Dx10).

The 8600GT in the G1s kills the Go7700 in the G1, so if gaming is important to you, get the G1s.

I really suggest getting the G1S.
Firstly, the G1p has already reached the EOL. Apart from that the 8600GT will offer extra power and DirectX 10 compatibility that will be useful. So I really think that the $100 is worth it.
As for the dealer, there are some pretty good one's, including the resident notebook dealers.

Well I ordered the notebook very late on Tuesday night, had an e-mail the next day asking to confirm my order (which I didn't do until late night either). They then shipped the notebook on Thursday and it arrived exactly one week later on Thursday. It all depends on where you live too, lagoom shipped from Cali and I live on the east coast, so that is the maximum you should you should have to wait.

Hmmm. If I was buying today I would go for the G1s, because of the eSata support and the newer graphics card. But if you're strapped for cash, the G1 will be just fine. I don't imagine you'll see any noticeable difference in performance unless you're looking for it.

If you plan on playing any next-gen games at any level (or current games at high level) then you will see a very noticeable performance gap between the G1 and the G1s.

G1 and G1s, better G1s because dont have big different prices, and also u got 2.20 GH processor with santa rosa platform and also with high end Nvidia geforce 8600gt, i think only this two thing make G1s more perfectly than G1,. and also make "big" different.
