    First post!

Hey guys, im from Australia, and am contemplating purchasing a W2V from the states..

    Aussie models come with:

    2g processor - compared to 2.13g
    80gb hdd - compared to 100gb
    512mb ram - compared to 1gb.
Tray loading cd drive - compared to slot loading.

They are also about $500 more exspensive here.

Aussie models come with XP Pro, not MCE, and do not have the MCE remote. I am not sure why this is, seeing as Australia uses DVB-T. I run MCE on my media pc, and it works fine. The MS remote is worth about $100 when purchased seperatly here.

I've been reading these forums for the last couple of hours, and I have not been able to discern what version comes with the US version.... Basically, I need to know if it comes with MCE, and if the tuner being sold in the USA version will work for digital over here.

Finally if somone can recommond a retailer that will ship itnl!

So far I am looking at c9tech.com

    Thanks...

The US model is the W2vb - MCE comes with it and it is just an analog tuner........ the digital doesn't work with MCE. We ship down under quite a bit but all international orders must be paid via bank transfer or money order.

As Justin mentioned the US model has the analogue only tuner. The W2Vc model sold in Europe and Australia has the digital+analogue tuner. At this stage there are no MCE drivers for the digital+analogue tuner so it can only be used under XP with either Asus's licenced media centre software or the default Flyview one.

For the remotes the W2Vc is actually much better. It comes both with a large MCE style remote that has the advantage of working without the external usb infra-red receiver that the MCE remote requires and a small PCMCIA sized one.

As a number of people have stated in the thread on pin moding the difference in speed between 2ghz and 2.13 is probably really minimal. Also the faster processors run hotter and use more power. As always it's just a compromise I guess. If you're trying to save some money maybe check out the comparitive cost of the European models but don't forget you'll probably get slugged with import duty as well as gst on the duty (it's a scam but there's nothing you can do about it).
