I'm off to college this fall and I am getting a new computer. I built my existing desktop and others for a job during high school. At first I was going to just build a desktop because of the advantage of price and performance over a laptop, but the practicality of a laptop for college made me look anyway. First I saw the ASUS GS1, and while I was researching it, I found this forum and a thread that compared the GS1 with the C90S. I thought the C90 would be perfect. Desktop power in a mobile package. Then I saw the IFL90. Either would be suitable, but I was wondering if there was any other laptops that are similar to these two. At this point, reviews (concerning heat and battery life with the c90) will dictate my decision between the two different laptops as I would the greater power of the c90, but not at the expense of stability and component longevity. Battery life isn't a great issue, but I would like at least 40 minutes under minimal load. I have no experience with laptop components, but I am not afraid to gather the components from Newegg and other sites if I can save money or slightly increase performance over Gentech's c90 system or the ifl90 as built by its distributers. Thanks for the help everyone.

C90 is lower power mode should last over an hour they say 90 mintutes.
If you want similar power but with a lesser video card, the HP's looked kinda nice to me the DV9260 I belive it was I saw for as low as 1800$ and it even has a HD DVD player in it.

I looked at it and its nice, but for the price, I could have a significantly more powerful processor and the better video card. This is probably because of the HD DVD drive which I'm not all that interested in at this point. Thanks though, anyone else, or any replies to my other concerns?

Perhaps, but the other threads are sort of all over the place with bearlake and a possible C91, you name it. I just wanted a few questions answered before dropping the thread.

c90 looks sweet actually, but if your looking to take it to class you might wanna look somewhere else.

Unless you sit right next to a power socket you won't be able to use the notebook for too long. Plus, the fans in the back (referred to by some as jet engine fans) are quite monstrous and could produce a lot of sound.

C90 has 5 fans? And looks pretty big. If you're going to take it to class do look else where. G1S would be a really nice choice i think. Works for gaming and you can easily take it to class and get 2.5-3 hours battery life.

I wouldn't mind sitting next to an outlet for class, all of the classrooms have them at my university so I'm not worried about that. As far as the sound is concerned, would it actually be loud enough to be disruptive?

I don't think anyone has tried the C90 yet but from the look of it seems like you're pretty set on buying the C90

I think at some point someon will tell youy do turn it off
I'm in college and in class you want to listen to the teacher not the fan from the person next to you, I consider that to be a very consentration killer. no body will want to site next to you
I haven't eared the c90, so all of the above is relative to the sound, to loud and you'll be eating along

Got it. Looks like I'll have to wait until it comes out to see how loud people say it is. And yes, I am pretty set on getting it because of the conroe processor, but if I find that it isn't practical for my use, I'll probably fall back to the ifl90. The HP that was suggested earlier isn't quite what I want and the GS1 or 2 is more expensive than I would like.

Sound wont be an issue since it does have four fans which run at a relatively low rpm. Of course asus took this into account and won't make some product that is horribly loud. It does have a quiet mode where the fans are inaudible and perhaps the only time the volume of the fans will be an issue is when you set it to overclock mode.
