I bought an actual ASUS made spare 90 watt AC adapter when I bought my n80 8+ months ago (both from Newegg).
Right now Newegg only caries 2 Asus AC adapters-a 120 watt, and a 180 watt.
I'm not 100% sure which model I'm going to buy, if I buy another laptop right now at all, but I'm wondering-does any Asus adapter work with any Asus laptop, so long as it supplies enough watts?
The claimed compatibility with the 180 watt adapter is just the G70, while it claims the A7, G2, G50/G51, G71V, X71, F70, N70, N90 work with the 120.
Some of the models I'm actually thinking about include the G72Gx-RBBX09 and G60Vx-RBBX09 from Best Buy, or maybe that G51J-A1, except I'm told stability on it is iffy, and Newegg's lack of an "LED backlit" label on it concerns me.

Oh, thanks-sorry I wasn't clear. I already have a spare for my n80, and this would be for a new system I buy-probably a G72gx or G60vx, or maybe that G51J, except I'm avoiding that since it's not supposed to be stable.
Good to know the tip isn't the same on all Asus notebooks! -
Sorry, I guess I'm bumping this...
If I end up buying a G72gx, does that 180 watt PSU (that says it's for the G70) work with that? Does the 120 work with the G60 models?
I guess I have to rule out the Asus G51j and Dell M15x because the latter throttles the GPU, the former is unstable, and both have USB chipset issuesSo something with a core 2 quad is the best I can do for now, I guess.

Sorry, this is the Asus 180 watt PSU that's labeled as compatible with the G70:

This is the 120 watt PSU that's labeled as compatible with a bunch of models, including the G71.

After looking at these again, I'm guessing it's the 120 watt PSU that's the one I'd need. Dell claims the G72 comes with a 150 watt PSU, but Gentec says it's 120, and the G71 was probably a similar model, so...
I'm not seeing the adapter sold separately on Gentec's site though.
(Am I the only person who wants to always buy a spare adapter with a notebook? ) -
ha, I'm suprised you didn't get more responses for this, as I always buy an extra adapter for my notebooks... one for the bag, and one for the desk I use them most at. But, I don't have one for my G51 yet, so will need to check and see which one I need.
-
Yeah, aren't they great? I don't have to haul it around with me-I just leave one at work and one at home. Probably saves wear and tear on them too (plus I have a coworker who's AC adapter has died twice, and another whose died, and then they're stuck unable to use their notebooks until they get a replacement).

I'm gonna pick up one of the 120W for my G51, thanks for the link. I didn't know they were that cheap... My Toshiba I had last used a $110 180W adapter....
-
Yeah, the prices are great!
Well, now I know what the G51 uses at least, but not the G72 :-/
That G51j WOULD be a nice system, but it's not stable, and they don't sell the older Core 2 quad based system anymore that was stable. -
Yeah, it's a shame the new one is getting such a bad rep, I have absolutely loved mine with the Core2Duo... haven't had any problems, and the performance is awesome for the price. Have been very happy with the build quality as well, noticeably better than my previous Sager.
