    Buying from NCIX

I'm in Toronto and wondering if anyone who's had to get support from ncix can comment on their support experience. I bought an LCD from them a while back but haven't needed support.

Saving PST is pretty huge on a notebook (I'm thinking A8Jm) and with Rewards Points and their sales it can be substantially cheaper than a local buy but with a company on the other side of the country I can hardly just walk into the store if something goes wrong.

That said, being in Toronto (for now) I could probably drive right to the Asus support center, but after reading delightful tales about their tech support guys who don't know anything (I can troubleshoot on my own but if, say, a screen needed fixing that'd be beyond my abilities), a middleman might prove to be a good idea.

Lastly, I'll be studying in the States in fall so even driving to the support center could get awkward. I know Asus products are reliable and I'm counting on that, but if I bought from a Canadian reseller then where would I go for support? I can't wait to buy once I'm down there because I need to transfer files/install programs beforehand and I can't go without a computer for very long.

    Thanks for any help!

NCIX has good prices. Their support is adequate, but not as good as you might get from Milestonepc. They do very little of their own warranty work. Instead, they have you work straight through the manufacturer.

My understanding is that warranty service works the same in Canada and the US, with support working through the manufacturer.

I bought my A8JM from NCIX. They were good to deal with, and saving the PST was a nice bonus. I paid $1679 for mine. I asked Danny from milestone if he could match the price, thinking that I'd save some hassle and get the ram upgraded to 2gb. He couldn't do it, so I went with NCIX and i'll upgrade the ram later. Shipping time from when NCIX got the laptop in stock until I had it in my hands was 3 days.

I buy from NCIX often, since I save PST, which is awesome :)

As for the warranty, ASUS will 99% honor it, since its a 1 year global warranty. Unless you buy a barebone, the dealer won't warrantee it.

    Thanks coriolis,

Would it be fair to say then that if I'm getting an ensemble then there's no real benefit to buying from a local dealer? Meaning they won't deal with the problems if something's broken and I'll basically ship it back to Asus regardless?

computers are still new too me ;) whats this internet thing again?

ncix is a great reseller IMHO, i've bought many a part from them.. I suggested buying local because you can go touch and see the laptop first.. vs dropping the $ on something your going to have to live with for awhile sight unseen.

Yes in theory it is much better to buy from a place near you, but if you want simply the best service, go to MilestonePC, if anything, i mean anything goes wrong or concerns you, Danny @ milestonPC will help you.

If he cannot then he will tell you that, and direct you to ASUS.

Of course if you have a problem you can just quickly send it to ASUS, but when you got a person in real life that can diagnose a problem in front of you and tell you whether it needs to go to ASUS or not, well that service is simply worth an extra 30-40$ more.

In anycase, people who buy from Ncix and MilestonePC should both be happy, you both are gonna be great anyways.

    Thanks,

    MysticGolem

I buy from NCIX all the time (it's close to me). However, shop around with US stores also. Sometimes even after crazy shipping and customs it still comes out cheaper.

I should have realized that when I bought my Fujitsu (not from NCIX).
