    Hey All,

Ive been looking for a new notebook for about a month on and finally someone on this forum pointed me to the ASUS F8. It seems pretty much perfect.

Here is what I was looking for:
    14.1" Widescreen
    100Gb+
    256Mb+ Graphics
    Intel Core 2 Duo

This laptop has it all for the price I was looking for.

My question for all of you is: What are your dislikes with this notebook?
(so far ive found reviews saying the battery life isnt very good True? How long does yours last?)

Also who knows where I can find the cheapest one possible? I found one on NewEgg for $1000 but its only 1.66Ghz duo processor. I am willing to spend up to $1000 but would rather have the best for the money. Does Acer often have sales?

    Thanks!!!

The F8 is a nice machine... the main problem with MOST Asus notebooks nowadays is poor battery life. By poor, I'm talking about... 2-3 hours, MAX. Other than that, they're solidly built and have a great warranty... so don't worry.

I bought a F8Sn-B1 a few weeks ago & it's been great so far. I don't use the battery much so I can't report on its life cycle but from what I've read expect anywhere from two to three hours.

I use mine more or less as a desktop. I hook up my 20" LCD & plug in a USB keyboard & can't tell the difference.

With Asus's one year replacement/fix & two year warranty you just can't go wrong. But I don't know where you'll find one (F8) for a thousand or less.

    edit...

I see that A1 @ Newegg for $1000 now. Not a bad deal at all. Just remember Newegg does not do refunds on laptops so be sure before you buy.

Thanks a lot! I think im going to go ahead and buy it. Im not whether I should buy this one or spend the extra $100 on a 2Ghz duo instead. If anyone knows where I could find a better deal, let me know! thanks!

I'm not pleased with the battery life. I only get like an hour and a half out of mine. But then again I don't tweak any settings or anything to try and enhance it. I guess I was spoiled with my previous Powerbook.

get at least C2D T7500 since it is the best priced processor now , it's got full fat 4mb L2C and 800FSB and is cheaper than Penryns.

or if you can spend a little more then get t8300 , which is faster and more stable on paper , though.

in real life use, the T7500 is the best buy since it is hard to tell their performance difference apart.

By the way, I will order F8 SG (t8300,2gb ram, nv9300gs and 250gb), I know the SN has better GPU nv9500GS but I dont need that , I just need a little more powerful GPU than ATI HD2400.

As stated, battery isn't the best.

I think one thing that really irritates me more than anything is that the ethernet jack is placed in a hard to reach place (the part connecting the lid to the actual body sticks out so there's no finger room if an ethernet jack is connected to your laptop). If you hook up your laptop to the internet via ethernet cable, you will have a hard time taking off the cable if 1) You have those ethernet cables that have that rubber thing covering the release mechanism (I dont know what its called lol), 2) You have fat/stubby fingers 3) You have a release mechanism. I honestly think that asus should have flipped the ethernet jack so that when you put in the cable, the release mechanism is facing downwards, not upwards.

Other than that, my f8 is frieken awesome! I love it!

How can I be sure if I am getting the WXGA+ LCD when my dealor does not let me use it or open the box?

I just need the WXGA+ screen resolution desparately, and this is the main reason I am getting the ASUS.

In my area , Thinkpad does not offer that option and Dell is not interested in doing consumer busness here so I will have to buy an ASUS with the WXGA+ resolution.

Search around for the exact model number (e.g. F8SN-5p07-- this is just an example). Look for the "5p07" on other websites, if 5 of them list it WXGA+ and one WXGA then it;s likely the last is a typo /copypaste error and the laptop is actually WXGA+. Needless to say if all say the same thing, it's probably that.

Even then it can be wrong. Nearly all of Swedens retailers listed the A8Js as WXGA, while it was WXGA+, as Asus had written the wrong thing on the specs site (wxga 1440x900).

Yeah, can happen. One can never be sure, but it's a good likelihood anyway. :)

thank you E.B.E. but one more question , please help me one more time.

There is no info on local ASUS site about the F8SN , SA and SG but they are sold here , I saw them many times at local shops and they are on their paper catalogues. But in their site , no info on these models and even in the paper , there is no info on the LCD resolution , it just says the F8 SV and SN have 8ms fast responsive LCD or like that.

doe this mean they do not have higher resolution LCD?

I called an ASUS office in Bangkok but no body was there.

I think the LCD on the F8 series is of excellent quality, but what do you guys think of it? Especially compare it to a typical of HP or Lenovo LCD , how is it?
