Well, I decided to deviate from my original intention of buying a HP nc8430 and settled for an Asus z96j. After paying $1155.03 for the barebones and a T2500, I went to newegg to browse for necessary components.

The items I am looking for are:

    1) 100gb 2.5" SATA HD (5400 vs. 7200?)
    2) 1024mb ddr 667 RAM (533 vs. 667?)
    3) DVD burner (What's the difference between IDE, eIDE and ATAPI? DVD-RAM support worth the extra money?)
    4) Intel mini pci wireless card (Well can't really cut corners there..)

Trying to get this under $300 after tax and shipping. But of course, I wouldn't mind saving money if someone can guide me towards making the right decision.

Thanks in advance for your time and consideration.

the hdd speed has been talked about alot .i have a 5200 but if i where you i would go with 7200 . or you can get a 80 gig 7200 rpm to cut the price abit

dont really know the price and speed difference between those 2. but if i remember correct most people recommend 533mhz

you need a sata drive so need to look at ide drives.and i havent heard anything about dvd ram so i guess it isnt worth the extra money

no you cant really make any money on a wireless card .if you need it you buy it

5400RPM should be fine for most uses... The price might not justify the cost for you, for the 7200RPM. I'd go for 667mhz RAM, it's really not much more expensive $10-20.
