I thought that with all the memory issue questions it might be helpful to create a post with memory success. I think if we include more detail we will be able to troubleshoot issues easier.
I will post my results with my 2gb+1gb Corsair Value select PC2 5300 667 Successful so far, see #13

As promised I am reporting on the new RAM modules I ordered from Transcend for my Asus C90S. I installed these yesterday:
2GB SO-DIMM DDR2-667MHz - Part # TS256MSQ64V6U
1GB SO-DIMM DDR2-667MHz - Part # TS128MSQ64V6J
I noticed an increase in performance, slightly lower CPU temps, and no more of the annoying-as-hell IRQL blue-screen crashing crap that it used to do.![]()

Remarks : I got the same thing Sgt. Hollywood has, except with a Velocity Micro X20. The computer freezes if I take out the plug or switch to Power Saver mode on Asus Turbogear. Otherwise, it works just fine, except for the rare BSOD, and it does heat up quit a bit, but it won't be a big deal during the coming Winter (there's an expected early frost). Let's hope BIOS 801 clears up some of these issues, because it's starting to piss me off. -

Is it weird to say I do go outside? Or that a room gets cold if it's cold outside, just like if it warms up if it's hot outside?

1. GPU not read upon first install: Updated drivers, solved issue.
2. Wireless Card not read: Updated drivers, possibly solved issue. Note: Unable to test if active because there is no wireless in this country.
3. Plastic hardline internet cord stuck in port: Had to use a plyers to pry it free of the port, the "push clip" was too large. Filed it down, solved issue.
4. Asus TurboGear shut down computer after 1 hour 30 minutes regularly when in Overclock Mode: Assuming that uninstalling Asus Bios Update solved issue. Because now there is no problem.
TurboGear runs fine in all modes plugged in. Unplugged runs fine in normal mode, have not tested other modes. Will update with that information at a later date. -

Okay I said I'd post my 2gb+1gb DDR Corsair results. After initial testing I threw in my 2gb stick and rebooted. I forgot to reinsert the AC so I ended up booting on battery. Booted fine, put ac in fine, ran in gaming made fine, pulled power out stepping to standard mode,....fine. I'm very excited to have these kinds of results on the maiden run, esp with what's been posted about mem issues in the past.
Long term results prove that I have 0 problems with this configuration.
So for me, my Corsairs work flawlessly. -
Corsair value 5300 here too.
Working fine on ultimate x64. I have 2 BSOD, dunno if it's caused by the RAM
1. OC mode (well, this one is pretty common)
2. Wake up from AC power. -
OCZ 2GB (2 x 1GB) 800mhz
WinXp 32bit: w/all updates
Latest Drivers: Asus, Intel Wifi, Lv2g Video Driver
Current Bios: 801
Wireless lost connection when unplugging AC (or booting w/battery)
and would NOT show under network connections using any pre-801 BIOS
With 801 BIOS wireless does not loose connection unplugging AC while booted.
But, it won't connect or show up as a device under network connections when booting from battery.
Plugging AC in after boot does not work either.
I have the 120watt power supply w/full charge battery.
I turned off all power save features to no avail...

this is what i originally bought :
Crucial 2GB 200-Pin DDR2 SO-DIMM DDR2 667 (PC2 5300) Notebook Memory Model CT25664AC667
and it didn't let me switch to battery mode.
so i bought :
Kingston 2GB 200-Pin DDR2 SO-DIMM DDR2 667 (PC2 5300) Notebook Memory Model KVR667D2SO/2GR
and I did not have any problems with it :] -

WinXP SP2
BIOS 0702
My notebook boots from battery, but only about 25% of the time. So I was trying to power up multiple times on the airplane before success.
I was surprised when Ken at Gentech told me my Crucial worked because he mentioned someone else used Micron and had problems. I see that the 0902 BIOS is out now, and I am afraid that if I update my BIOS my RAM will stop being compliant. Any suggestions/comments? What exactly has the BIOS changed since 0702, it mentions "VOLTAGE adjust" or something. I'm mostly looking for reduction in temps w/o physical mods yet. -
Kinda in the same boat as I am on 801 and want to upgrade, but don't know if it will screw anything up. I wonder if there has been any new issues that have arrived with the 902 bios
-
OK. I've been itching to upgrade my C90S to 3GB lately due to Photoshop CS3 filter rendering speed. Been digging up old posts but I'm trying to get this compatibility issue solved as much as possible before buying, I absolutely hate returning these to local shops at a 15% restocking.
I'm looking at either of these 3 that seem to be compatible from other sources; Kingston 2GB KVR667D2S5/2G, Transcend 2GB JetRAM JM667QSU-2G or Transcend 2GB TS256MSQ64V5N.
Anyone with any ideas if these are working in your system? -
Same goes to Kingston when it was compatible with C90S but not anymore, their new batch uses Micron IC will not boot from battery mode.
You can try BIOS 902 and if you don't like it you can always flash back to the old BIOS. -
For my 1gb stick I got the cheapest one I could find off newegg, and it works perfectly. Im thinking it was kingston, but im not positive ATM. Cost me A grand total of 20 dollars (yay for sales) and shipping was pretty much free because I got some other stuff with it.

Hate to bring up a dying thread but I'm on topic so it's all good
So with BIOS 902 out and support for booting with 4 gigs of ram I'm thinking of upgrading my memory since it's a cheap upgrade that will be useful all around and not just in games. I found this 4 gig kit on newegg that seems like a fair price (20$ ish a gig but there's a rebate and free shipping) - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820144066
I couldn't find if anyone had reported on GEIL memory and I'm definitely sure no one tried 4 gigs so wish me luck. But my question is whether or not I can use pc-6400 ram and have my computer automatically downclock the memory. Since the faster memory is just a few dollars more for the same brand and capacity I can use it in a future notebook (or C90p motherboard upgrade...) without having to buy more ram. Is this an option to me or do I have to buy the pc-5300 ram?
I checked through this thread and found no one had tried 6400 ram. I think it should downclock but before I pull the trigger I decided to get a "professional" opinion. It's kinda sad I'd rather go to a forum full of random people for tech questions than anywhere else.... -

Update: 2x2GB G.Skill PC-5300 (Says F2-5300CL5D-4GBSA on box) works great in C90. Increased performance in games and decreased startup/shutdown times as well as shroter game load times. 70$ for the 4GB upgrade on newegg with free 3-day shipping.
-
my corsair value select bluescreens, crashes off of sleep mode, and freezes when the power is disconnected.
anybody have any luck with the GEIL, Mushkin, or PNY memory?
also, i know the c90s used to have problems running two non-matching memory sticks, where we able to resolve this problem? -
You're seeing 4GB of RAM? I thought 3GB was a chipset limitation...
I might have to ping Ken, and get a 2nd 2GB module and change over to 64-bit mode
Cheers, -
themanwithsauce Notebook Evangelist
Nah, I only show 3 but I got a 4GB kit and used both sticks and it works great.
-
-
themanwithsauce Notebook Evangelist
matched sticks, ease of shipping, transferrable to another computer if needed, will boot with 4 in. Why not at this point?
-
-
themanwithsauce Notebook Evangelist
I ust checked on newegg, using bare bottom shipping rates you would pay almost 60$ for a 1 gig and 2 gig sticks of ram of the same mfr. and speed shipped. Mine cost 70$ shipped. But mine was free 3-day so the whole price was 70, no extra costs and I recieved it on day 3 and I ordered sunday night
Factor in 3-day shipping and you actually pay more by like 3 or 4 dollars and they're not even guranteed to arrive together either. -
Cheers, -
themanwithsauce Notebook Evangelist
it can be, depends on the deal you got and how long it has been since ram prices fall with time so if you got 800mhz ram when it was first out you payed for it big time. Now it's basically the standard in desktops so it's dirt cheap. An 8 gig upgrade today could cost as much as 2 gigs did a year ago (don't quote on this, just an example)
