I have been doing a bit of overclocking on my C90 and noticed a few things. Firstly my GPU shows up as a 512 ddr3 card, which it obviously is not. I am wondering if this would cause problems with the overclocking. Also, when I do overclock the gpu, I can only overclock the memory to around 434 but the core will overclock to about 519. For most ppl they can bring the core up to about 500-520 like mine, but can also bring the memory MUCH higher. I'm not sure why I am getting artifacting at such low settings...
Now I find that I also get this other strange effect when overclocking, besides the artifacting, the screen will turn off, then on and I will see the mouse curser and am able to move it, then it will turn off and repeat for while. This is when I usually shut off my computer and restart, but sometimes I can get back to the desktop and I get a message saying "display drivers stopped working , but have recovered", is this something I should be concerned about?
One last thing... When I am in Overclock mode (CPU) I find that the fans don't always speed up enough to cool it down. For example I was running DiRT with just the CPU overclocked and the fans were roaring, but I noticed some decent performance increases, but when I overclock the GPU along with the CPU and run 3dmark06 the fans ramp up and down, but are never as strong as in DiRT. I think this is what is causing the problems
Any thoughts?

is there a setting in the bios where you can turn of q fan so the fans always run at 100%
-
I haven't tried going into the bios yet. That might be a quick way to fix the possible overheating, but not an ideal solution. When the fans are running full blast they can be quite loud, and having to restart when switching from playing a game to surfing the web would be pretty inconvenient.

I don't have too much experience with this sort of thing but I will give you my thoughts.
Either the cooling is improper as you describe in paragraph 3, or you just got a set of memory chips that do not support running at the higher speeds... Some processors / memory will take a lot of overclocking, others will not, depending on the batch. (this will be less likely if the memory is actually designed to run at higher speeds but is clocked down for thermal reasons, as I gather is the case with many (newer?) notebook GPUs)
Einhander: for the ensemble BIOS there is no such option. Things might be different for the C90 -- but I doubt it. -
I've just set up Riviera to track my GPU temps, and the idle reading was 75 degrees celcius, and when I was running 3dmark it went up to 82!
Anyone know if the new bios would fix the fan problem?
EDIT: these test were done while the CPU was in "overclock" mode. -
Well I think I know what the problem is. I have the cpu running in overclock mode, and the GPU a bit overclocked. The problem is that my cpu tem is around 57 while my GPU rises from 70 -82 and I suspect that the exhaust fans are triggered to ramp up when the cpu temp rises.
Anyone have this problem? I am wondering if it is because there is something wrong with the cooling pipe.
EDIT: btw I am using the newest bios 702. -
Couple Questions:
How do you overclock? I know why you do, but is it REALLY needed?
Also, what is "game-mode" mean for the C90s? -
well for the GPU I use a third party program called RivaTuner, and for the CPU I use the program that comes with the C90, Turbo Gear.
To answer your last question, Turbo Gear has 4 presets.
Power Saving: "quiet & low power" (also dims the screen)
Standard: "Default CPU frequence
Gaming: Overclock CPU by 10%
Overclocking: "Overclock CPU by 15% - 20% -
The Forerunner Notebook Virtuoso
82 degrees is normal for gpu nothing to worry about there.
