Hey, My C90 has been behaving strangely. Occasionally while running, the computer will get extremely hot along with the A/C adaptor. The A/C adaptor will get the hottest. It will get so hot I can barely touch it. Almost hot enough to cook with. Even on power save. It comes along with another problem where my high intensity games will lock up to the point where you can't even ctrl-alt-del or alt tab. I think there may be some kind of short on the Mobo which is causing an overcharge of power, which then is causing the notebook to over-heat and freezing. Anyone else have these problems?

Do you have the gddr3 card? And if so do you have the 120W adapter?

    Check your PS rating.

It's been posted in various places that the C90 needs a 120W ps if you're using the 8600gt ddr3 gpu, but some shipped with only a 90W model - at load that will cause problems with the power requirements being so high for all of the components at load and push the heat waaaay up, potentially leading to shutdown. The 90W adapter apparently can't push that much power consistently to function properly.

Edit: Darn it, beat me by one minute while I was typing ;).

No, I'm using the 512mb 8600GT. And my adapter is a 90 watt too. Should I jump to a 120?

Gentech's site says they supply a 120w ps on the order form but the spec sheet says a 90w. Judging by the fact that my label matches my spec sheet rather closely, how do I tell where it says my wattage cause most of the label is chinese and until my chinese friend comes back from his trip I'm a little stuck.

    yeah...90 watts then...

My ps unit is model number ADP-90SB BB

Anyone else who has this unit for a C90s, you have a 90w unit, and I do too...

A question though, does ASUS recommend a 120w unit or do they require it? Also, gentech has on the order form the ps unit rated at 120w yet I recieved a 90w unit, is there some sort of exchange program for those of us who recieved 90w units?

Sorry for double post but after talking with ken he said that all C90s with motherboard revision numbers ending in F06 or earlier are fine with 90w supply units, even with gDDR3 cards. You can find your motherboard revision on top of your memory module, it was a green sticker on mine and it's thin

I have a MB revision f06 and was told the same thing by Ken. However, I want a spare adapter to keep in my bag....so what should I get Ken....120w? I could keep the 90 in my bag.

Btw, I haven't had any issues as the OP described.

I would say check rear ventilation situation, as well as check your temps with speedfan/etc....maybe buy a cooling pad (any) if you're really concerned.

I have been told you only need the 120w adapter if you have a certian revision of the motherboard (forget wich off hand) anyways I have run the GDDR3 card with the 90w adapter with no issues. I did not try to run it with only the adapter and no battery tho wich is what is supposed to cause the crash.

My adapter gets very very hot too from playing intensive games like hellgate london. So hot that it does hurt to touch it. Make sure its ventilated in the open not sitting somwhere where it can accumilate heat.

As far as I know its normal and ok.

As for the notebook itself getting hot, the c90 is a hot running machine, there are several things you can do to help with this. We have all the resourses in the world here on the forums already posted if you look around.

First and formost get the 169.01 drivers they lower gpu idle temps, Second look into mods or a cooling pad if you wish. Third replace stock TIM with better stuff.

Also if temps are very very high a RMA may be needed for bad hardware, my first cpu and first gpu both ran hotter than normal.
