Have those of you with the new card gotten past the issue where performance went way down if you used any of the new drivers like those posted on laptopvideo2go? or are you still stuck using the drivers that come with the card?

If thats the case, are those drivers working flawlessly with games like Team Fortress 2 and Bioshock? (both are games that I know required new drivers to run properly)

Im still waiting because I am wanting to upgrade myself and know I saw a post about it. I just hope it was an isolated issue (even tho I think it was 2 seperate post about it from 2 different people)

I have asked Ken from gentech for an answer, he should be back with me shortly with it.

Yes it's true if you download drivers from laptopvideo2go.com you lose performance, I got 2000 points on 3DMark06 with mod drivers and 3600 with provided driver CD.

Also the card can only be overclock with it's own driver.

I haven't test much games yet but I haven't seen problems with it.

Regarding the 120W power supply, you don't need one, only the MB VF07 required 120W, we skip that version, we now using the newer F08 that's already comes with 120W power supply even you purchase the 8600 DDR2.

    You have the 8600M 256DDR2? that's 8600M GS.
Here is the list of the drivers from laptopvideo2go.com:

    http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/forum/index.php?showforum=72

You can use 163.44 or above if you want to play BioShock.

Well I ordered one, I guess I will be the test subject again. I dont see a good reason why there is a loss of performance unless there is some very specific things being done with the stock drivers to make it work right.

I hope we know what they are soon so we can self mod new drivers, alot of these new games have very specific driver updates to prevent problems so being stuck with old drivers is going to not work.

I know two people already confirmed that the new 164.75 drivers fixed a crash issue in team fortress 2 for example.

    clicked on XP 32bit
And it says the latest drivers are 163.16
    Is that right?

BUT!! on the right of the screen it says the latest XP 32bit drivers are 101.29...

You need to download the modded inf and copy into the extracted folder of the driver before run setup.

Ken are you going to test these with the new card to see if it works correctly? If it doesnt maybe you can pull some strings and get us info on why they dont work from asus and find out how to make them work I hope.

The only weired thing is that it only perform the way it suppose to be with the stock driver (the provided CD with video card), I can test more games with it's driver to see if there is any problem, if you have any source to download Crysis beta that'll be even better. :D

Other issue is it has to use 120W power supply with MB revsion F07 which we don't have, we just received newer shipment today and the MB revision is F08, the package is also different than all previous revsions, it comes with 120W AC, bigger carrying case with Asus logo, driver version CD is V2 instead of V1.

MB revision earlier than F07 works fine with 90W AC on GDDR3 video card.

LOL, seems the Asus C90S was definitly not a shining example of "the early bird gets the worm" However I think us a as a comunity at whole have taken the whole thing really well.

I think Asus owes us big time for this tho, as they really did "screw" over alot of people, heck I bought 3 different sets of ram for mine and still dont have 3gb working for instance.

Now I have ordered the GDDR3 card and pray that I dont have heat or driver issues, What I am afraid of now is that the card actually doesnt perform better than the GDDR2 512mb version at all but that they released some super modified drivers with it that are designed to own 3dmark, and that would explane perfectly why when you update the drivers to a new version that the score goes way down. If this is the case (and I would normally say no way is this the case but asus of the late wouldnt suprise me) then i'll be very angry to say the least, and poor Ken he is the one I take my anger out on. He is a good man.

Ken, what did they change on the motherboard and why the increase in power for the adapter? Also, if I buy a spare adapter to take with me, what should it be? 90w or 120w? IMWTK :D

It wont hurt to have the stronger one but you wont need it acording to ken.

Also I am not sure but you can try to run DXDIAG.exe from your run command and it gives mobo info not sure it it will give the revision I think I read you can only tell by looking at it in person. As for an indepth program to read system info Sandra is probably the best followed by maybe everest. One of those may tell you aswell.

If you got the c90 from Gentech tho he says they never had the revision that had the flaw with the 90w adapter.

I am still concerned about the drivers issue tho, we need to crack down on whats going on. Asus will never keep up with drivers on a regular basis to keep up with new games, you may see new drivers once a year for 2 or 3 years untill they dont make them anymore.

did you try the new 163.75's zoid? and was it only 3dmark you tried or did you try games to see if the performance went down.

Vicious, I tried the 163.44 with modded inf only with 3dmark, and it severely crippled the score...I got 2200 with it, and 3657 with the 'stock driver' everything on normal and 3dmark default. I would like to try a newer one and see how it goes. Work has kept me from doing much in the way of gaming until after next Monday, then I'll be more free to spend most of my time gaming again :D

    I get arround 3000 with every one I tried, 101.xx, 156.66, 163.69 and 163.71

Are you sure you're not in vista power saver mode?

On my heatsinks, the manufactured that is 2007/03/14 so I guess it's one of the first version...? Maybe that's the damn overheating problem >-<

Oh great now they ship a bags that actually fits..the day my new bag comes in. Any word on ASUS making amends to those who got shortchanged with the too small one?

As for drivers, I don't want to loose OC ability so I'm just using the ones from the ASUS site. I haven't seen any errors, but I haven't tried TF2 or bioshock.

I'd like to know the solid changes in MOBO rev, I'd hate to see power changes to support later MXM modules that our rev's cannot support, and or flawed designs.

Hey Vicious, what games do you have installed and or demos, we'll compare FPS. and see the difference

    MXM 2.0 is 25W, that won't change. Just like PCI-E 16x is 65W (or 75?).

My bag fits, itcouldn't be 1cm shorer though but it's okay.

Yeah, I have to force and apply a ton of pressure to get the c90 into the case I received and it all but digs into the lid/leading edges. Not exactly what I'd consider a protective case, not too cool in this aspect.
