Hi all, I recently bought a new C90S and it has been working fine, however recently I have encountered several problems when I tried to go more mobile with the laptop.

First problem seems to be when I unplug the laptop, while on, from the ac adapter I will loose wireless internet capability. As far as I know everything else will work ok but no internet.

I first noticed it with the Intel Pro Wireless software where when I would unplug it after a few minutes it would pop up an error saying "Problem applying profile" and wouldnt work after that. Thinking it was a software error I switched to the windows utility now I just get disconnected from the internet, even though when I mouse over the little task bar icon it says I am connected. If I plug the power back in nothing changes and the internet remains out.

I have tried reinstalling the driver and uninstalling turbo gear. The odd thing is if I restart the computer (still unplugged) I will get the internet just fine with no apparent problems.

The second problem kind of came up while I was trying to sort this out. I saw there was a new bios version. So I downloaded winflash from the asus website and tried flashing my bios but once restarted an error came up saying "File not Found".

Anyone else have these problems or know of a solution? I guess since the problem seems to clear up when I restart the computer is still useable, but it would be really nice to get this cleared up

Oh yes, I forgot. I am using XP, if that makes a difference

Control panel, device manager, network adapters, go to intel wifi doube click. Go to power management and uncheck "allow this computer to turn off this device to save power."

Second solution is don't use winflash. Somewhat risky, instead use a blank cd. Burn the rom file onto the cd. Restart your computer with cd inside. PRess esc at asus logo, click boot from cd and it should go to dos, type in UPDATE press enter, after its done restart your computer, press f2 go to save changes and your done.

Thanks for the quick reply. I was able to upgrade my BIOS just fine. However unchecking that box didnt fix my problem. Whats wierder still is that it will happen semi-randomly. Sometimes it will work but most of the time I loose internet really quickly.

Most wifi problems are actually caused by your router or your driver. In your case your first course of action is to disable all security features on your router. see if it works without security. if it does try using simple security like wep.

My router is a Belkin Wireless G router, I just checked if there are any firmware updates and it appears as if there are none. Also I have another computer running on wireless in the house and it appears to be working fine. As I just recently setup all the networking things I have not enabled any security software on the router and have not enabled any firewalls.

The first thing I did when I saw this problem was to upgrade my wireless card's drivers to version to 11.1.22 (the latest I believe), just in case that helps.

Another intersting/strange thing about this problem is that if I turn on the computer with the ac power un-plugged the internet wont go out no matter if I plug the power back in or not.

I've looked around and can't seem to find a fix that works for me. It almost seems like a good idea to return the laptop back to btotech, if I can, and exchange it for a G1, V1, similar laptop if they do not have these issues. I really like my C90's performance, and price, but a laptop that is reliable almost seems worth the extra money

Just a quick update here in case anyone can come up with something. I tried same thing on my campus wireless network and sure enough, I get the same behavior. It works fine while plugged in but if I unplug it while the laptop is on I loose connection. I guess it must be my wireless card or the actual C90 that is causing the problem. I will try some other drivers but is there any way to check if the C90 or the actual wireless card are not working correctly?

I have the same problem on both XP and Ubuntu. Works great until unplugged than dies. Will not work again until it is restarted. It has something to do with the way turbogear changes the power profile when unplugged. If we could tweak the settings on what happens when it goes into battery mode, it would stop.

Thinking about it, Turbo Gear cannot work on linux, and since I am having the same problem in both, it must be a problem in the BIOS.
