Hello guys, I got my c90s and assembled everything. CPU, video card, memories, and almost everything else working fine. However, before I started to install anything, I notice the fan didnt started afer the notebook got ittle hot. I restarted and checked the cpu temperature in the BIOS and it was around 56 centigrades (oC) and NO fan cooler working. What temperature should the fan cooler start? DO they work all the the time?. WHen I checked the fan cooler section in the BIOS is written N/A, should it said something else?? COuld it be the BIOS version(mine is the original that came with notebook)? Neither the 3 fan coolers atached to the cpu siwtch nor the one attached to the vga switch works. ANy input or ideas of what should I do would be appreciated.

    Thanks in advance,

    RG

If the fans are not spinning at all, the CPU should be reaching extremely risky temps and throttling. Try speedfan and check the temps, most likely it's the same as halfhalo indicated (From what I know, the C90 is extremely quite unless overclocked or put under stress)

I don't know for the C2D but in the Athlon64 it's 67C risk temp and at 72 it critical.

But I heard the C2D are running about 24-30C when not stressed so...

Try to stress it (games, 3DMark...) if they don't start, something is messed up

With both my C90s' i NEVER got it down under 60C and when it was down to 64C the fans were dead. it takes it to about 68C for them to activate. consider yourself extrememly lucky!

Professor: Now everyone, compile your code and turn your work in...
    Halfhalo's C90S fans: "WHIRRRRRRRRRR"
Classmate: What on earth is all that noise?
Halfhalo: I thought OC mode in class was the best idea ever

edit: Just to make myself clear, it's not the best idea ever. I'm a librarian, and I'd be forced to give you one of those librarian looks that stares deep into your skull, making sure you never disturb others with your noise again. :p I'm sure your professor would do the same.

ok guys, but it says under FAN BIOS N/A, is that ok? plusI never let it go up to 60 oC because I dont know what is the normal teperature for the 2.66 MHz dual core 2 to run with so what is the temperature for the fanto star running?? if I can not get them running, could an BIOS update help to fix the fan cooler trouble?? thank you...

    any help it is important..thanks

i really dont think that your fans aren't working, try running superpi or wprime mutiple times - with gaming mode on and high performance power option on windows, and it should eventually work when the cpu gets over 70 or higher

Ok, fans started to work (1st and 4th) at 60 oC then all four fans at 71 oC..CPU keeps running on average of 71-73 oC when all 4 fan coolers are running. Is this 71-73 oC range for CPU temperature OK???? any input on this one??

    thank you,

    Wow... you are lucky.

Mine idles in windows at like 65c and the fans are not really audible, soon as a run a game or a benchmark tho the fans spool up and things get very hot and the fans are going. I can cook things from the heat that comes out the back probably....

So ... Everybody says that the fans arent very noisy but... I can sort of hear them.. And i only have 75percent of my hearing... Could it be becasue its so late and my entire house is so quiet... Im on my bed and my c90 is a good 4 meters away from me and i can hear them roaring :(

Im not very picky about these things which why i mentioned it right now im doing battery calibration... Is that intensive??? Cause very hot air is comig aout from the back and all the fans are working... (My ac is on so its not hte room temp)

Id assume it would be, battery calibration means the system is draining the battery on purpose to see how long it takes. Its obviously going to drain the power from the battery as fast as possible wich means running everything to a moderatly high level.

Hmm my cpu runs fine it goes from 53-57 while idle, like just web browsing and small stuff but the problem I am having is the gpu overheating. Before the gpu went to 80 while idle and the cpu was still 56 degrees. I talked to Ken about it and Asus. Asus guy said check thermal grease and if not then send it in to us. I don't want to ship it and wait 2-3 weeks so I checked the thermal grease. He said it should be white but all I found was a clear liquid that was barely there between the heatsink and the plate covering the card. The liquid was barely there and the plastic skin under the heatskin that touches the gpu cover had the grease on it but it was smudged to one side. Do you guys think this is the problem?

Also what are your idle gpu temps? Help would be greatly appreciated.

Haven't checked my thermal grease for the GPU, but here's my temps...

cpu (idle and standard mode): 55-56 in an air conditioned room
gpu (idle, 400/475 ):72 in an air conditioned room

In a room without A/C, temps went up a few degrees for both cpu and gpu

you sure about your cpu temp?? what software do you use to check that? mine cpu, after a while gets up to 71-72 oC and stays there in standard mode (at room temperature) I have check other people and the same 71-72 oC at room temperature (not air conditioning)

My GPU get hot too around 75 oC to 82 oC...

    best regards,

I m not concern about the gpu temp because I checked it and it was ok. bUt I m concern of reading people getting a 56-60 oC or 65 oC temperature iddle when all 4 fans are working. Mybe there is something wrong with my fans and the ceramique is not working properly.

so it seems people are afraid to talk about cpu & gpu temps here where others made wild claims that are far from reality. Doesnt matter, got my answer from ASUS...

Who are you regarding as wild claims? my cpu idles from 53 to 57 degrees like I said when I am just browsing. My gpu is not got as getting hot as you guys while ideling its low is 72 high is 80 mostly 75-76 but my comp is crashing alot and I have no idea why. ITs crashing during gaming all the time no matter what game, no matter what driver so I have no idea. Its not that even crashing right away. Sometimes I get 30 mins in and sometimes I get 1 hour before it crashes and sometimes it crashes within 5 minutes.

what cpu you have? I have a an E6700 and not crashing at all. I was scared at first for the high temp at room temperature but then it is working fine. what RPM you get from your fans and when your fans starts to kick in??? no all fans should start at once. At 58 oC should only start 1st Fan (for gpu) and last Fan (for cpu) after you get to 66 oC the other 2 fans kicks in. This fan behavior is set by ASUS and it doesnt show in the BIOS because is only set from the factory. This temp are at standard mode while in gaming mode doesnt make much difference (like 3 or 4 oC up) About my gpu, I keep non-power saving running all the time and my cpu is on desktop config all the time so it runs at 2.66. To have it idle around 53-57 oC is almost impossible if you dont have an smaller cpu plus the fan setting are for 58 oC so something is definitly not running right in your machine.

I never had a crashing problem before. My c90s runs stable when i oc my cpu to 2.8ghz and gpu to 500/500.
As for the temps, I use Speed Fan for temperature readings for my cpu and HDD, and NVIDIA Monitor for my gpu temps.

My current temps on standard mode and default gpu clock speeds are: 55 and 56 for cpu; 71 for gpu

Yeah I have no idea why it happens I'll tell you guys what hapeenssince I have no idea. So basically games whenever i play after a bit the screen turns a green or purple and the sdreen freezes up and ends p red or pink with veritical mish mashed lines and then the sound just keeps repeating the last 1-2 sec of whatever sound was playing. I thought it was gpu overheating but sometimes it happens within 2-3 minutes of gaming. I talked to Ken and an asus guy, asus guy said check thermal grease. but i have been watchin my gpu temps like crazy. Like I said i've never seen my gpu gone past 80 and some people are reporting it going at 85 and notcrashing. I have no idea if its something I did, but I dont know that I could have done to make the games crash because I have used at least 3-4 drivers old, new, and in between and its not the drivers. Also its not he game crashes but my whole comp freezes up. It couldn't be the ram could it because the game does run for like up to an hour or something before crashing? I don't tihink its cpu overheating because cpu idles around 55 usually and peakes to 65-68 under heavy like 75-90 percent cpu usage load and the fans break it right back down. I didnt have this problems for the first couple of days so it might have been something I did but what could I have done to make all my games crash?
