Instead of burning coasters, you could use a usb drive to do the updates. You need to be able to boot from the drive ( HP Drive key boot utility) and then decompress your iso on to the drive. I have not tried this yet but have read about it and all newer mobo's have the ability to read and boot off of usb.
The link says hp but you can use it for other drives as well.

Is everyone's C90 running memory at 266? Or is this limited to only us unlucky few?
-
Has anyone successfully upgraded their ram to 0801 with the .rom file?
-
Was going to update earlier, but didn;t have time before school. Doing it now with rom file
-
How do you update with a .rom file -- it isn't an .iso image like everyone else keeps talking about? I have CD-RWs but I don't have the software. Is there anything free that'll work?

The .ROM file works perfectly with the ASUS update program. But to be safer, use the option of updating the BIOS thru file, not thru the internet. First, download the ROM files from the website, use the ASUS update program to flash ur BIOS. It will only recognize. ROM files. Takes about seconds to finish easily...

Can I flash using an USB flash drive already?

Its possible, it was posted somewhere how to do it, but its kinda complicated. Much easier to just burn kens iso to a CD or DVD. It even works with a RW disk I have tried it. So just one cheapo disk and you can use that same one for all your updates.
This thread should be updated to have the 801 bios Ken, these are old news now. -
Yeah I'll burn.
Only 3 DVD left. Might be time to order a new 100 pieces bath of Taiyo Yuden ($21, best DVDs in the word,) -

for the bios may as well use a cd not a dvd.

So the 801 bios is the real deal... that is the one I'll try.
I just got my C90 a couple of days ago, thanks Ken. I have some small issues, but all in all, very pleased with my new lappie. -
I'm having a problem burning the 801 BIOS to a CD. I used nero to burn the ISO to a CD but when I go to boot from the CD it just goes straight to the xp loading screen. I don't know what I did or what I am doing wrong. Anyone have any thoughts or suggestions? Or if someone could tell me exactly how they burned the BIOS ISO?
-
Press ESC at the ASUS logo and choose the optical drive.

Hi all just got my C90, do i have to update my bios 1 by 1 on each update?
Or can i just update V801 and it will have all the previous bios in it?
Also when i burn the dvd do i burn it as a data dvd? -
You can go just straight to 801. I don't know about DVDs, but you should just be able to double click on .iso if you have Nero installed to burn it t disc, right click and burn image or in the smart start>>back up>>scroll to the right or if you have CD seleced>>burn image to disc.

Use DVD decrypter.
It's the best image burning software (and free) imo. That's what it use to burn ps2 games (on TYGO2 DVDs of Course) -
-
You still need a modded PS2

Yeah there is one that is getting pretty good. I didn't have much success on my Sempron though lol. Has the Vista X64 version been released or just the linux x64 yet? -

PCSX2 is what I use most of the time, sometimes I will try PSX with a PS2 bios in it.
-
I got the BIOS to update finally...
Used Active ISO Burner 1.1
to burn 801 image to disc. -
Does anyone have another copy of the .iso file for the 801 bios? When I try and open the one on the first page in poweriso or burn it i can't see any files
-

I get that too, try with a different computer. No-one else but me noticed it so far. This laptop reads the iso but nothing in it while my other one burns the bios within the iso onto the cd.
-
anyone know if this bios will let us update our gdr3 cards with new drivers
-
am this bios version cools my video card 10 times better... my gpu clock is 600/800 at 94 celcius max on stock cooling
-
wow
I'm getting 96 at 500/530 under load -
i wonder if the new drivers work with the gdr3 card. im gonna give it a try i guess.
-
621/900 max load 98 celcius during 3d mark... on stock cooling not bad!
-
Yeah, umm bump. What are peoples results, stability and battery run times with the various bios?
I can say with 601 and 704 I get better stability and a 1hour 20min battery life. with 801 and 901, I get BSOD frequently in Vista SP1. Also, what do people think of 502, haven't tried it yet? -
Well, for 704 worked better. With 801 & 901 my fans work less so I get a lot of extra heating I didnt get before. The weird part is I tried to load back 704 but for some reason only the bios number version is the same but it keeps behaving like 901
-
i tried 502 but still not getting 667 speed for ram. runs at 400mhz where is it getting the correct speed reading? i used cpu z.
in the ram tab it'll say the ram is 333mhz but on the spd tab it'll say 200mhz and is running 4:3 ratio!
SUCCESS! cpu clocked to 2.93ghz
the new ram and bios downgrade works great.
