    Hey
Some more bad news on the c90s.
If you one a c90s with mainboard revision -f07 (newer model released within 2 weeks ago) and you have a ddr3 8600gt vga card and a e6600 or higher it is possible that you are killing your 90w adapter. It does not apply to all cases but most who own a ddr3 vga card. a simple test is just to run 3dmark06 with the battery out. with the battery out the notebook will simply shut off. if this happens to you contact your dealer for a replacement 120w adapter. If your dealer tells you to contact asus then do so but express your dissatisfaction. We are shipping our c90s with 120w adapter where needed instead of 90w :)

Whats the difference in the mainboard? Does supply more power to the PCI-e slot (MXM) for the DDR3 cards, I'm presuming that the e6600 and up already eat alot of power?

not sure if the mianboard has anything to do with it. there are different mainboard revisions. it looks like the 90w adapter is underpowered or right on the verge. not every one may experience this problem but it it present. I dont think it is a concren but people should run the simple test. Dealers should definitely test for this before shipping

How do I check the mainboard revision?

I doubt it have a f07 anyway, since it seems to have been manufactured in march

it really matters none what the revision is. i tested and found the issue on rev f07. i am pretty sure it affects all of them. just run 3dmark06 with the battery out. if you have an older dd2 card you will not have any issues there.

actually, I was surprised when I saw it came with a 90w power adapted...I fully expected it to be 120w. I'll check with the etailer.

Mine is 19V * 4.7A so that's 90W. Can I change it? It might be a problem now but in the future....

I dont know what effect the notebook can have on the 90w adapter but even if you have a lower watt ddr2 vga card the 90w adapter is still underpowered. It is possible the 90w adapter with the original c90 can have a very short life. Time will tell. if rma starts comming in then the worst happen. They bundle the 90w adapter with g1s but the g1s has a mobile cpu. the 90w adapter is underpowered either way you look at it.

Asus will start to ship with 120W on new versions, I already talked to them to put 120W AC long time ago, it was the shutdown problem with X6800 CPUs that we have change to 120W for all customers who bought X6800 with C90S.

actually x6800 tested out fine on my end. sold quite a few of them no issues. the issues are not related to the cpu. they are caused by the new ddr3 vga card. cpu has nothing to do with although a lower end cpu with ddr3 vga card may not enter shutdown. problem happens only with dd3 card and e6600 cpu or higher

I'm in the same boat as JCMS here, it may not be a problem now, but in the near future.... it will definately be an issue.
Ken, is there any way for those of us that bought through GenTech to get it changed out or will we have to go through Asus directly?

    I just ran a test on my C90S, e6700 @ 2.98Ghz, 3GB RAM and DDR3 Video Module w/out battery, no shutdown during 3DMark06, on the 19V*4.7A here.

lol, I was just about to contact Eddie to see if I could get a DDR3 module. Wanna talk about working something out so we can do both at the same time?

what if we don't run 3DMark06 like myself, is that a problem to me still?, also kind of off topic here, but first weeks of my c90s i can start up the laptop without having to be plugged in no problem, but now when i power it up without being plugged in i get blue screen

ranger you have a ddr2 module note ddr3. as i said the issue is present with ddr3 not dd2
its not 3dmark that cause the issue. any application that uses enough of the vga recourses will cause the ac adapter to shut down.
