    Hi everyone,

I have the 512 DDR2 video card in my machine that I bought from Gentech a while back. I know the GDDR3 version is supposed to have better performance though.

In the event that Asus screws us all and doesn't release a newer card for the C90s, would it be worth it for me to buy one of the GDDR3 cards and stick it in? I'm not too worried about the extra money I just want to get the best performance out of this puppy that is possible because I don't plan on buying a new PC in the near future.

What are your thoughts? Thanks in advance.

They discontinued offering the gddr3 due to "thermal" problems. Its alot more hassle also since they are alot of problems with gddr3 users. Its not worth the money. Save your money to see if we get a 9 series card when the c90p comes out next month or so.

Cool, thanks a lot. I hadn't heard that news before.

I don't have much faith in Asus to bring out a new card for us...but we can always hope.

Well, it's not only Asus but Nvidia/ATI too. The mobility Radeon HD 3650/3670 aren't more powefulll as what we have now, and the MXM-IIable cards nvidia has released are the 9600M GS (65nm 8600M GT) and the 9600M GT (65nm 8700M GT)

Here is hoping for the 9650M (maybe a 8700M GTX or 8800M GS, who knows taking wild guesses) :D

It'd be a shame if ASUS doesn't offer more powerful cards after proclaiming this product to be user upgradeable and future proof.

None of these 2 exists lol. The 9600M GS & 9600M GT are highly probably with the coming of the C90P imo (9600M GS is a 65nm 8600M GT & 9600M GT is a 65nm 8700M GT). The 9650M GS, being the 8700M GT isn't MXM-IIable though. The 9700M GTS, a G94M cut down from 64 to 48SP (as of what we know today) is also a candidate for MXM-II if you ask me, and that would be a nice upgrade, similar to the 8800M GTS

If the c90p is coming out next month then how come the gentech guy that frequents this board even know what they are to be getting. Is there a NDA on products coming out whereas the vendors of the systems can't speak about them?

Yes, in some cases there are NDA between resellers and Asus, however, for the release dates, it's as strict i think (eg when Asus send a new product not yet available to the public to resellers/distributors for "training" purposes etc, they have to keep their mouths shut) . Keep in mind that even when Asus gives an official release date for a particular notebook, they tend to be delayed, hence most resellers are hesitant to give an exact date as to when the C90P will be available.

He's only gonna know about it like a month maximum before us. We usually know about the laptops/new computer parts like 2 weeks before the release date

Is somebody knows about an opportunity to upgrate 8600 gt to 9600gt on this laptop? Is it possible? I saw that 9600gt uses only 23 watt(only 3 more than 8600gt).

The 9600M GS and 9600M GT haven't even been officially released yet.
