I was told that the c90s series is able to use the quad core processors with a bios upgrade to which they are still working on and also the c90s can use 4gig of ram using the vista 64bit and the 3 gig limit is only for the 32bit windows. Is this true... this information came from a asus technicians

The quad core is possible yes but I don't think you can utilize 4 gigs even with 64 bit.

So now I decided to get a laptop and Im trying to catch up on the new technology and Im checking up every detail... which I thought was funny from other posts mentioning its better you don’t know much at all... and Im waiting for my shipment to arrive impatiently

The c90s is a great laptop IMO, esp for a desktop replacement. On the surface it would seem there would be either a bios upgrade or chipset driver upgrade which would allow more ram. ViciousXUSMC has posted on here extensively about a hardware limitation in the chipset that prevents 4 gigs of ram. I tried to reinvent the wheel on that assertion through research on the 945g chipset and found out it's a high performance chipset allowing the 1066 fsb but I couldn't prove to myself either way about the ram.

You should look those posts up and read them. I take it you've ordered the C90s? If so, congrats. If not, then congrats on whatever you have coming :D

4gig is not happening due to the chipset, but quad core is not happening due to thermal limitations. Also again the chipset may be an issue. Its the right socket for the cpu but even a bios update can only do so much for a chipsets core features.

There is no reason for a quad core tho other than pure epeen if you ask me, a core2duo is already miles ahead of other standard notebooks and puts you on par with all but the highest end desktops.

The only tasks I can see being done that can really take advantage of the extra power is video editing, or encoding. With of course software that is multithreaded.

If anybody has proof that a quad core is comming to counter what I say please let me know, but what I say is a accumilation of knowledge from previous things we know.

1.) the 2.93ghz limit on the cpu now is a thermal limit stated by Asus.

2.) it was stated that they "want" to find a way to put a quad core in the c90 down the road but for now theremal limitations were present. Read between the lines and understand there are other models of the c90 supposed to come about in the future, my guess is that the 17" model or even larger may have the cooling needed for the quad core but our current 15" model is pushing the limits with the core2duo.

The added epeen of quad core though would be fun :)

I went to a lan party with my c90s and I had the fastest computer there...granted there wasn't a single computer there that was brand new but there were a few 1 and 2 year old machines that my C90s was running circles around.

Just as ViciousXUSMC stated, the C90s does not, and will never, support more than 3gb RAM. If you have read differently anywhere else, they are lying. In fact, if you put more than 3 gb of RAM in the laptop it will fail to boot.

I got the C90s and Im still waiting on shipment.. i have all the forms filled out and ready to go heh...

That answered my other question on the limit on overlocking with the c90s, i read that 2.93mhz was the limit but asus told me it can over cloack past that point but its clears it up for me on the subject that cooling effects it. which is obvisous heh

much appreicated on your feedback, but fingers crossed they will update bios for dual core and have it stabilised..

2.93ghz is the set limit with the asus software, if somebody modifies it or finds alternative software to overclock it could go higher but "at your own risk" They should have the e6600 overclock 20% in overclock mode as opposed to 15% thats the only flaw I see in the included software.
