My c90s has been working fine untill yesterday when I started getting these discoloured lines all over the screen. So I decided to shut it down and when I turned it on this morning, the Asus splash screen was not visible and when Windows Xp was loading it was barely visible due to these lines. I have had my c90s for well over a year and a half. I have thought about applying some thermal compound as when i opened it up and removed the gpu it was very dry, however I am unsure of this problem.

    I have a:
    2 Core 2.4ghz
    8600m gt
    2gb OCZ ram
    1680x1050 screen

    Please help,
    thanks

Do you think it's worth it to buy a new card, or will it just burn out within the same time?

    I'm open to all suggestions.

The GPU is one of the components of the c90s which is notorious for being defective. i bought my 8600m gt ddr3 replacement last year ( after a year of use) for 220 USD. Its life would probably be the same as the previous card ( around 1 year or so... ) . Try to do the vicious mod and lower your temps for the card... a notebook cooler is also a good companion to the c90s.

As to whether is it all worth it, its up to you. spend around 200 bucks for a year of use, or try to raise money until u can buy a new lappie ( 750-1000 USD ).

If you have $150 dollars to spend on it then yeah I would say it is worth it if it lasts you another 18 months, otherwise not. Mine died in my C90P last week although I have managed to get it RMA,ed on the very day my warranty is to run out lol - today! .

Replacement for sale at asus e-store for $150 - the DDR3 version
