How is your c90s holding up?

    ive had mine since August...
    1. The mesh speaker cover on the right side is tearing and is halfway off
    2. The microphone jack cover has come off
    3. Scratches are obviously normal but theres a couple, and the scroll pad picture(i cant think of a better way to describe it haha) is starting to wear off

I think its held up nicely and really enjoy it, im glad i got it

    other opinions on yours?

Didn't have any problems that you've mentioned. The palm rests have a few scuffs on them and the left palm rest has brown grease splotches on it. Though that can be easily removed, I just keep forgetting to do it.

Otherwise holding up very nicely since August also.

I would contact Asus and see if you can purchase a replacement Speaker cover.

I've also noticed the microphone jack cover getting loose, I think this is a build quality issue. I think I'll try to permanently glue this tight so I don't suffer the same fate.

Yeah. Scratches are normal. As for the scroll pad, I would suggest using some sort of Sign vinyl adhesive to stick onto the touchpad, eventually the paint will start fading as well. This should give me more incentive to do it :)

No problems here (knock on wood), had mine since initial shipment and it comes with me every day to work (in notebook backpack, plugged into external speakers and USB mouse) and weekend its setup at home on a cooling pad for gaming with friends. I use the headphone jacks almost every day (plug in and out) and noticed no loosening up. I'm a hard and fast typer and keys are still on, the speaker mesh is still intact and I use a fine cloth cover under my left plam so no signs of ware there (got use to it when I was using the 7200RPM HDD, sweat and heat very uncomfortable while gaming).

hmm i guess my 7200rpm drive runs pretty cool, because it normally doesn't get to hot up top even when gaming

o and ranger how is that dual boot going for you?

Well sorry for saying this, but how the heck can you say that the computer has held up nicely if pieces are falling from it after only 4 months?!?

umm well it could be worse :) like say the screen could be having problems or other things haha

i work at a ford dealership as a porter so i know that even things straight from the factory arent even 100% perfect(our shelby gt500 is an exception) so like i said it could be worse

Just contact Asus and chances are you could RMA it and they will re-send it like new, or even a new one (so be cautious to remove everything from inside it)

I'm on a 5400RPM drive but it still gets hot like hell, got used to it though

Really jcms? I had a hitachi in my first c90 and that thing burned up my palm rest. I told Ken I wanted a seagate for my replacement c90 and this has much better benchmakrs, much quiter, and alot cooler.

hmm well must be different for each one, but the heat from my 7200rpm hitachi isnt that bad.. not nearly as hot as the turbo engine

seagates are good drives though, to bad SSD are expensive as hell

From my experience, seems like the Seagate Momentus's are slightly cooler than the Hitachi 7K200s (I mean slightly! like 1-2 degrees from the SMART temperature reading). Either way, my palmrest is always hot.

well I do have an idea that would require you to remove the optical drive, and I'm working on it. It's basically a DIY cooling rig, but it's in the process right now..

see the C90s modder's thread for my idea :)

man, that's completely ancient anti-piracy technology, and it's stupid, we all know that the game runs off the hard drive and not the optical drive. Well you can still literally yank the optical drive when it runs the game and it doesn't need it anymore, and then connect your fan afterwards, but sheesh...

Why won't they do something like what Valve does with Steam?

I use Daemon Tools (Virtual drive) and have an external dedicated to CD image and files of CD-keys for installing software and games. A lot easier then having to pull out binders full of CDs and look through books of CD-keys every time I install Windows again.

Yep that's what I use, not sure if you would be able to create an exact copy of COD4 since I don't play that game(although I know Daemon Tools can replicate copy protection). It's definately worth a try, and it could speed up the loading process as well!.

    Multiplayer doesn't require a disk.

I have a extra computer I keep a copy of Blind Write on (30 day, so I need to change the date back to use it) and its worked on everything including COD4.

I have to disable my ROM drives (via the deceive manager) other wise it asks for you to put the disk in.

I have my motebook since early september, and i so still think it was the right choice for the budget i had and im glad C90 was a reality......now...regarding the externals......

I use my notebook everyday for over 14 hours, and i noticed that there's this noise on the right palm rest, everytime i press it, even with one finger

i hear this noise: (see attachment)

    damn chinese plastic...

    besides that it's still perfect

Offtopic: I like the word "motebook" :) It's cute. Also reminds me of "Mote in God's Eye" by Larry Niven and Jerry Pournelle. :)

    (I know it's a typo)

Edit: Chinese plastic is as cheap or as good as ASUS designers order it...
