Hello, I have had my C90s for about one year now.. but today when I turned it on.. there is no boot.. no Asus prompting sign... just nothing on the screen.
From what I can tell.. all the components are running but the fans at the back are not turning. I am unsure if anyone had experience the same problem, but if you had and fixed it, please enlighten me.
Thank you

Try removing the battery and starting purely from AC power.

Hello, My Laptop is plugged in. rarely battery (due to low life). The battery is taken off the unit and still no go. From what I'm reading from the other thread.. either my GPU is dead or loosen (Even though its heating). But still the fans aren't running which is bothering me...

I take it the blue light on the "on" button lights up? When first starting up the fans won't turn on unless the notebook is already warm.
You may have had a graphics card failure as without a GPU the computer cannot boot and therefore won't display anything on screen.. -
Yeah the blue lights turn on fine.. I can feel heat from all the components. Also I can hear my hard drive do the zippy noise at boot.
Is there a 9 series or a ATI card that I can replace my 8xxx with ? -

Not at present. There is the 8600M GT 256mb ddr3 card at best. Can be purchased from gentechpc.com or excaliberpc.com both at $179 both can be shipped overseas. Some C90S owners have managed to get higher scores in 3Dmark06 than a 9700M GT with successful overclocking. This is your best bet right now. a 9xxxM series card may follow in the next few months if asus release a new card for the C90P which means an upgrade for us.

I am using a 8600gt GDDR3 256 mb.. but I'm not sure if I trust nVidia again after this fiasco.

It does suck. I just bought a cooler to stave off this happening to me as long as possible. On another note the HD mobility 3650 256mb DDR3 card could work also in the C90S or you could do the dare devil thing and buy a 9600M GT and mod it to work as achieved by nightwalker in this forum. A good place to look for Hd 3650's is mxm-upgrade.com.
I am thinking of selling my card and getting a ddr3 card soon I will pm you this week if you are interested in picking mine up for peanuts and when I have finished deciding -

Seems like the life of my card may be very limited, it has run well for 18 months now but i won't sell it considering the failure rates these cards have!
-
Would the 3650 be a direct replacement, or would there be a need for modifications like the 9600?
Thanks -

The people to ask are at mxm-upgrade.com they stock it and help out even if modding is required. Should work but won't be a direct, designed for C90S replacement.
Maybe better to get a new DDR3 card and then get a cooler. Mine keeps my GPU temps on idle at 60C and CPU at 30C. Under stress the GPU won't even break 87C and this is without any mods done to the case..yet -
I have been operating my Notebook without the backpanel and with a Zalman NC1000 on at full. my highest temp is about 90-92~C. On idle its about 70. So it probably just my card was a hotter card then usually?

I think so even though the ddr3 does heat up a little more than the ddr2 those temps are not normal.
The thermal paste between card and heatspreader/sink may have completely degraded so the heat wasn't being transferred properly. If you get a new card put fresh paste in every 3-4 months. Without backpanel and with a cooler those temps are crazy high unless you have been super OCing!
Another thing that I have done which may make a difference is use the new C90P copper heatsink instead of the aluminium. I put details of that mod up in the C90 modders section. -
Hi, don't know if this thread is still alive, but I am in the same situation. Frazzled my 8600 in my C90s and now I'm debating where to go from here. I'm not even a very big gamer these days. Just like to know that my laptop can handle itself...when things get tough
I have emailed MXM upgrade and they have said to see if they know how easy a 3650 would be to install and they have said "No, I don't know but I'd love to find out"
As funy as it sounds modding my laptop, to take a 9600 or a 3650, I kind need it to work these days so think I'm going to go with the 8600 DDR3. If anyone has luck with the 3650 so let me know though!
Thanks

Actually I was contacting zepto today and they sell the 9650M GT for 220 pounds or about 300 dollars including tax and postage and packaging. Plus the card uses samsung memory chips which is the right memory to do the nightwalker 96xxM GT upgrade. As I soon as I get enough cash I am going to go ahead and get it as it is 90% certain to work. So if you want to take a small gamble but enjoy the fastest C90S out there you may want to consider this upgrade.
Happy decision making
ps they also sell the 9600M GT which is 100% guaranteed to work for 160 pounds or about 220 dollars. -

What do you think? Any chance? -
Wow... So I'm not the only one.
I guess I will wait for the prices to drop on the MXM 2 cards to sub $100 before fixing this wonderful failure. Just one piece made this machine so bad. -

The 9650M GT should suffice for now. Overclocked a little it should easily compete(or beat) with ati's new potential mxm 2 offerings. Plus thanks to nightwalker there is some certainty to the 96xxM GT cards working.
Hope this helps.
@bredidran we are lucky that we can swap out our faulty 8600M's other people with the G1S or other brands without mxm 2 modules have to scrap the whole computer or get a new motherboard. The 8600M GT DDR3 cards goes for 170 dollars for the C90S but there are other options now.
