I have these random freezes in COD4. Some times I can spend a coupe of hours with no problem, other times I can't play but a few minutes.

    Vista Ultimate
    E6700
    2 Gig Corsair Select 1g X2
    nVidia 8600 GT 512mb

I'm using the Asus update drivers equivalent to 158.45. I've tried the newer nVidia divers but they won't recognize the GPU.

Are there other drivers available, if so, how are they installed?

    Thanks

Interesting....i overclock my gpu pretty high and its 100% stable in every other game except COD4. I assumed it was because COD4 used more hardware and therefore used it as a test for the overclock. Therefore, I have to ask you if you were overclocking your gpu when you played it? Cause if you werent and its still locking up then....well....ill stop using it as a stability test.

Use the newer drivers with the modded inf, thats how they get recognized.

swoley2k: nope, running Standard, my c90 has never run Gaming or OC'd, without BSOD at some point.

halfhalo: is there a thread on installing with the modded .inf? Do you copy the inf and then install? The nVidia install .exe fails to recognize a compatible card.

Yes, copy the inf file, then install. It makes install.exe recongoze the card. theres a thread somewhere in the gaming forum.

heat shouldn't be the problem here, I can play for hours on end and never get a problem & yes my GPU is overclocked.

Mine does that too in Tabula Rasa. I believe heat could be ap roblem.

Sometimes it will heat non-stop, sometimes it stays at 102 and other it stops at 96. I,m always using 475/1300/520 clocks

Problem solved or so it seems in standard mode. Haven't tried to run Gaming or OC'd.

I loaded the nForce 169.13 with modded .inf No problems in several sessions, both short and long. COD4 runs great for me.

Temps are now runing 40 -54 C at idle, no more than 70 C gaming.

Used to run about 8 C higher overall.

    Thanks for you help!

PS - Thought I might note, I'm running Vista Ultimate 32 bit.
