    Hi,
Just picked up my w3v -- my first laptop -- and so far (it's been a day)I'm quite happy with it. It's solid, stylish and compact. It also runs pretty warm.

I got centrino hardware control and read a number of threads about it. But I'm still confused by a few things. I've seen several posters say they've set minimum (6x) and maximum (14x) settings. Is that all I have to set? In other words can i leave the inbetween settings grey-ed out/unchecked? Or should i be setting all the multiplier-voltages?

I have mine set at 6x at 0.780 and 14x at 1.196. Also have custom dynamic switching enabled. My cpu temp while office/email is around 53 celsius and the hdd is 47 degrees celsius.

Are these settings & temperatures on par with other w3v users?

Any suggestions and help would be greatly appreciated.

Yep, you just have to set the high and low.

    Those temps seem about right.

The one other thing I can think to suggest is changing ATI's powerplay setting to balanced or optimal battery life. Doesn't make a huge difference, but you might be able to knock off another couple of degrees.

I personally set all the settings that my Pentium M operates on (see the Voltage Information section in CHC). Your voltages can probably go lower, but that's OK. The CPU temperature seems a little high, though, but I don't have the w3v so I'll reserve judgement for someone else (mine is about 38C idling). It depends largely on your room temperature, though. Also, yours is Sonoma so it will also run a little hotter than Dothans.

Here are my settings for the W3V and CHC:

    6 0.7V
    7 0.7V
    8 0.716V
    9 0.748V
    10 0.796V
    11 0.844V
    12 0.892V
    13 0.924V
    14 1.004V

only problem i have with the w3v is how the fan kicks in between 36C-40C.

    Thanks for the feedback/suggestions.

Looking through the posts it does seem like my cpu temperature is, relatively, a bit high. I will try undervolting a little more to see if that makes a difference.

Apart from comfort level -- what is the main danger of having high cpu temperatures? Will it shorten the life of the computer?
