HI GUYS, im new to this sight so hello to all, Anyways, i have a asus M51Sn laptop With Intel core2duo T9300 2.5 ghz
    Nvidia 9500m GS graphics
    2gb ram
    250gb harddrive.
Well, i really want to upgrade my cpu cause i use my laptop for music production and i need it to be as powerful as i can get it, i will be upgrading to 4gb ram even though it'll onrecognise 3.3gb or so, i'm running vista home premium. I ask a friend and he said no but, another person i've asked on another sight has the same laptop and he has upgraded his from a t5450 to a T9300. or something like that, So if anyone can give me some advice on any other hardware upgrades it would be very much appreciated thanks.

There are only 2 cpu's better then yours. A t9500 2.6ghz and an x9000 2.9ghz. I wouldnt really reccomend the upgrade and your laptop might not be able to handle the x9000. Also it only see's 3.3gbs of ram because you have a 32 bit operating system. Lastly this is in the wrong section it belongs in the hardware section. No worries mods will move it soon enough

It all depends on what chipset you have and what your BIOS supports.

If you have an Intel GM or PM965 chipset, then you can only use up to 800MHz FSB processors, in which case the T9500 and X9000 are your only two realistic options, and even the X9000 may not work because it draws more power than a standard Txxxx processor. I replaced my old T5750 with this T9500, and I'm definitely not disappointed, but if you already have a T9300, it's probably not worth the replacement (these processors cost a few hundred dollars for a fraction of a GHz more).

On the other hand, if you have the newer GM or PM45 chipset, then your options are a bit more open, as you can use up to 1066MHz FSB processors, but like I say - these are very expensive and probably not worth the cost if you already have a T9300, which is an excellent processor as it is.

As Tippey says, the fact that your system only recognized 3.3GB of RAM is a limitation of your 32-bit version of Windows, not your computer itself. You should upgrade to 64-bit, which will allow waaaaaay more than 4GB. Call ASUS and see if they can send you a 64-bit recovery disk for free. Dell was kind enough to send me one when I asked, even though my system shipped with 32-bit.

If ASUS won't do it, then contact Microsoft directly. You'll have to pay for the disk, but it's something like $10, which is really just for shipping. Also, your existing Windows license key will work on 64-bit, assuming it's the same version, e.g. Vista Home Premium 64-bit can use the same key that you use with Home Premium 32-bit now.
