Hey guys. I just wanted to know what the number of processes and cpu load is at startup of the G1S for you guys.

My fresh install of Vista Ultimate with latest drivers and no bloatware is at 30% load for 8-10 minutes after boot and then drops down to 0-2%.

I have 75 processes running, but from task manager I can see that many of them are only taxing memory and are not doing anything.

Is my after boot load normal?

By the way, svchost is around 15-20% cpu usage after bootup and then drops down to 0-1% after 6-7 minutes.

By the way, does Vista check for updates on a fresh bootup?

I am using my own copy of Vista Ultimate.

Not at all I think. My c90 has 11 processes running (10 if you don't count sidebar). 75 is huge. Though between the two laptops there might be a a few processes differences between them but 75 is just enormous espcially after a clean install. Thats weird the clean install did not get rid of more. Try disabling services and startup programs and after get a registry cleaner like ccleaner. But if I were you I would try another clean install.

I thought 75 a huge number too, but on a clean install with no drivers or any other stuff, vista is about 55 processes. Once I load up office ultimate and set up my smartphone to sync, thats another 5 processes since onenote, groove, outlook, windows sync manager, windows sync center load up. I have a usb sound card and headphones for that so that is another 1 process. Add in all the drivers and utilities for the function keys and then there is a few more. I use Avast Antivirus home edition since Mcafee provided by Comcast is a resource hog and doesn't play well with Vista, even though they say it is compatible. Avast brings in like 4 processes, but only 1 of them is actually has any cpu usage; <1%.

A little update folks! It seems that one of the svchost.exe processes is for superfetch. That could explain why my cpu load is around 30% after a fresh boot. That could also explain why outlook and all my other office programs load fast after a fresh boot.

By the way, I disabled 3 services that were for sharing Windows Media Library to network users.

vista 55 processes? you can clean up your computer further and get rid of unecessary processes. If I didn't have my hotkey, asus vga driver, and a few other somewhat necessary stuff I would have 6-9 processes running. Your ultimate may have some more stuff running then my home premium. Also yeah get superfetch a week to fully optimize itself to what you do on your laptop. Then you will see your comp fly.

I cut down as much as I could. 72 processes right now with Guildwars running, task manager open, and ie open. By the way, my antivirus is actually 5 processes: the control pannel, ondemand scanner, email scanner, web scanner, and update service. But, they all are 0 cpu utilization and 12 meg ram usage.

If you can afford it you buy 2 matched 2gb chips. This is so you will already have 4 gb when you one day upgrade to 64 bit and you will be sure the ram you have is the same. 3 GB gives a big performance boost in games that needs a lot of ram for maps etc, like WoW and BF2.
