Apparently this problem raises its ugly head for a small portion of asus laptops, including the G50V. That being said, my cpu has been eaten alive for the past few weeks by a system process called "system." Even upon running booting up in diagnostic settings this litte bugger rears its ugly head. So, heres what I did.
1)Wept
2)attacked svchost
3)convinced myself it would go away eventually
4)deliberately started crashing my pc (since it seemed to dissapear after that for some reason
5)called tech support for the 18th time (originally had to get a new optical drive)
6)Disabled my unused usb drives (temporary solution, for approx. 1 evening)
7)Am now once again, sending the laptop back to get a fix that most likely wont work.
Final thoughts: Buy a mac. Ive probably wasted more than a full day trying to get this machine to work properly, and alas, still no solution. Oh, and since I havent been able to use the machine, the price has dropped substantially. So.... @#$%

i know i chimed in your other thread however your issue is most likely a software issue aka "user error"
there is no reason why you should have 90+ proccesses running. -

hmmm never mind you are not the same guy.
1. is the o.s. original one that shipped with it?
2. have you confirmed that on a fresh install to factory state the problem is still present before you start loading all your own software? -
This is actually a (by now) reasonably well known problem with the G50 on these forums. OP, see the G50 Owner Lounge, 1st post; there you will find a link to the thread which describes possible solutions. In a nutshell, people disabled one of the USB controllers and most got rid of the problem.

i dont get it. Why would this not affect the units we ship? g50 is very popular for us and i am pretty sure my tech would have mentioned "oh hey btw al the customized orders are shipping with the cpu being eaten alive"?? Also it is not something that affected the review unit i had which i fooled around with for a few days.

I don't think all of them are affected -- otherwise we'd get a lot more than there is on that thread. Some units are affected, though. Who knows by what criterion...

Its not a common problem, it just happens to some of us unlucky folk. And yes, it does emerge with a system restore, and even though the usb disabling worked for some, for me it just made the problem go away after about 2hrs of using it. So, asus tech is aware its an issue, but have only seen it on a few occassions. It almost seemed like tehy were looking foward to disecting my rig

Yeah I did read
"6)Disabled my unused usb drives (temporary solution, for approx. 1 evening)"
but I wasn't sure you meant the fix posted on that thread.
I don't know what else to suggest. I think there were other fixes suggested on that thread but they were unconfirmed at best. You could try them...
