I just got mine in and I'd have to say I'm quite impressed. I spent some time with the stock driver, the scores whooped the crap out of my DDR2. I know there is all sorts of trouble with the drivers...but I'm currently 3DMark06ing 167.58 and scored 4k stock...and not the projected 2 ~ 2.5k. What drivers are you using? Where the drivers finally fixed? What kind've overclocks are you guys hitting? I'll post all my results here as they come in... Edit: I think I see it now...167.58 - any overclock settings I set with RivaTuner aren't sticking.

just got 3794 with the 167's, I used to get 4k with the stock drivers, and around 4200 OC'd.
also, temps didn't go over 96 during the test...something I can't say for the stock ones :-/ -
i did a bios overclock with the 167's and i get a little over 5000 in 3d mark with one time getting 5200 but was unstable
-
I think I'm going to have to use the BIOS as well...I'm not having any luck with any driver than stock, granted I've only tried one. Moving onto another now...
-
169.28 no good...1/2 performance and no overclocking via driver
-
im using 167.49 the one from asus. Then overclock using bios. Then you have new video drivers for ddr3 card that run fast
-
Those are Vista only sadly.

Stock, using Riva-tuner to OC

Its a bit better running now(AC5 cured up) but for reference. -
Sgt. Hollywood, besides stock, I have found that these drivers: http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=16926 - give full performance, and a performance increase, however, overclocking must be done through the BIOS.
-
Sgt. Hollywood Notebook Evangelist
Yeah I don't want to loose software OC. Mainly the ease of downclocking fast and on the fly, not to mention if I ever need to RMA this card.
-
FYI, 167.48 was pulled by MS do to unknown reasons. If your using Vista32 167.49 is still out there.
-
Apparently it was pulled due to PowerMizer not working.
-
I was able to score 4,801 in 3DMark06 @ 1280x1024 hehe. I'm loving this card...doing the Vicious Mod now :]
-
that's about stock 8700...pretty nice.
-
just to let you know... if you do a bios overclock downclocking acctually works. I can go from 634 core to 480 but cant do the reverse which forces me to restart.
-
Sgt. Hollywood Notebook Evangelist
I down clock to 169 , don't know how feasible that is with a bios flash on this one.
-
Downclocking works? Awesome, I'll have to fool around with that.
Just completed the Vicious Mod...CPU has dropped about 3 ~ 4C, GPU is down 2 ~ 3C with the fans barely on.
I noticed that the GPU throttles its self down once temps hit 96C...which my card seems to bounce off of. -
Can someone explain to me how to overclock via the BIOS?

Theres a guide.

Bios overclock doesn't do much except set your overclock speeds as stock -
How do I make a bootable USB drive without an floppy drive...
Answer: Using an image apparently: http://www.techpowerup.com/articles/overclocking/vidcard/34/5
EDIT #2: This is not working for me. When I try to add the files after formating the USB drive, it asks me to replace some of the files. I've tried it as replacing, and without. Both give me NTDLR Missing.
EDIT #3: Trying a second USB drive solved my problems.

I'm using 167.45, and like it...actually better than the .58....but I have not 3dmarked it....just checking with the games that I play.
-
Ive asked this question a few places, but no one ever gives me a straight answer.
Is there a way to overclock the 8600gt on the Asus C90S, switch mode on turbo gear and NOT have the card reset back to stock settings?
-Towels -
The Forerunner Notebook Virtuoso
No, you can't overclock the cpu and gpu at the same time. Or maybe you can with a slight gpu overclock.
-
Sgt. Hollywood Notebook Evangelist
WarTowels,
Stock Drivers, Switch to desired TG mode, use Riva tuner to OC GPU. This I believe is the only way to get the result you are looking for. Stock Driver though.
However, if you change your turbo gear mode they will default to that setting.
In short Turbo Mode first, then software GPU OC. -
Right, not the ideal solution I was looking for. Oh well.
-Towels -
The Forerunner Notebook Virtuoso
Why do you need turbo gear anyways? overclocking your cpu will not do anything for most games (unless rts). It lowers your gpu overclocking and does not really help cool it.
-
Because I want to go from power saver mode, back to regular and keep my OC for the other modes.
So I'll be using RivaTuner profiles for that.

Hello I have been reeding all your treat ;nice job guys...
I just would like to ask you how you think my last result with 3DMark 06 are (sorry for my english I am french)
so...I used riva turner
I didn't search the breaking point (artefact) ...
I have on my C90s a E6600 and a 8600m GT 512 ddr2
with 594/1188/532
TG overclock
I got 4338
It was running at max 80° C
So is it a good or bad result (I am nooby in overcloking)? -
Sgt. Hollywood Notebook Evangelist
C'est Bon.
For a DDR2 card not too bad, pretty much what you can expect.
What resolution were you running 3DMark at? The default demo res? -
yes on default resultion 1280x1024
I did just now 4414 with 594/1188/549 ...
it went at 82° max...
thank for that quick reaply man -
u speak a little french that's cool
