Hi guys,
I was hoping I could have some help... I am having trouble figuring out something that should be very easy... It's a stupid problem for me to have but a problem nonetheless and I was hoping someone might point me in the right direction.
Basically,
I have an Asus G50VT-X5 (which I Dropped the T9600 2.8GHz in, as discussed here a few months ago) and I have a new Samsung 330 32" HDTV. Also have a lil Logitech Z4 speaker system (two lil speakers and a lil subwoofer).
So I have hooked up an HDMI cable from the laptop to the TV, and I have it set so the TV is like "extra" monitor space... So as I type this the TV is playing "Crimson Tide" and the sound is coming from the TV speakers.
But when I connect the speaker systems cable to the TV, nothing comes out of the speaker system. Similarly, if I connect the cable to the laptop, the external speakers still don't sound. What am I doing wrong here, and where do I want the cable connected to?
Thank for the help I much appreciate it.

First you should probably ask to have this thread moved out of this lounge as it is more appropriate elsewhere, not to mention you may get more appropriate responses. Thats if mine doesn't work hehe.
Ok, now to the crux of your problem. If I am understanding it correctly you want to hook up a little 2.1 speaker system to your TV as opposed to the laptop for sound.
Given that, first you need to verify that your TV has a proper "audio output" jack that matches the one for your speaker system. If yes then continue, if no then you can't do it.
Second, go into the TV menu and search for either "set up" or possibly a seperate "audio settings" section. Look in either one of these menu options for external speakers as you may have to activate "external speakers" through the menu before your TV will pass a signal to the output jack. You may also need to "deactivate" the TV speakers as part of the process (also done through the menu). I say maybe because this will vary by manufacturer and age of the TV. Some do some don't, or you may want to anyway as to not have the sound coming from the TV at the same time.
Ok in your post you said that you are able to get the laptop sound to play through your TV speakers already, If this is the case skip this......O almost forgot a step and you should probably do this first and see if you need to do what I originally suggested first. Just like with when the 2.1 speakers are hooked into the laptop direct and you didn't get any sound out of them; you need to make sure that the laptop is sending the audio signal out to your TV. Since you are running the laptop into the TV via HDMI you can pass sound as well through the same connection. So go into the audio/sound properties and look to see what is selected for the sound output. It should be set right now for the laptop speakers. Change this to HDMI and click ok.
Also regarding the sound not coming out of the laptop either, just like with the TV you need to go into the audio section/properties and make sure you have the correct sound output selected (HDMI, SPDIF, etc). If you still get sound out of your laptop speakers when the 2.1 speakers are connected to the laptop then you have not changed it.
Hope that helps.
