you could and it would work, but there would be no real difference between what is already in there.

Strange... I could have sworn the G51VX-RX05 has wireless built-in like EVERY Laptop now a days...
Unless someone want to prove me wrong that the G51VX-RX05 doesn't have wireless, which would be stupid of Asus to do.

It has built in wireless, but apparently the wireless card that is in the G51 kind of sucks.

I know G51VX-RX05 has wireless built in. I means how difference between original wireless adapter and intel 5300. I usually play RTS games like red alert 3 with my flatmates. I will consider to replace it if 5300 can provide higher wireless speed.

the default wireless card in the g51's is the intel 5100. That card is...so-so. if there isnt a sticker on the card in the laptop than i would say go for it and upgrade it. if there is a sticker on it then you might void your warranty.

CPU change will void the warranty. Wireless card won't.

If it doesn't have a sticker that says, "Warranty void if removed" then it won't void your warranty.

Make sure you have an extra unused antenna in your G51. Most Asus notebooks will have if, but you should still double check. The Intel 5300 wifi card uses 3 antennas and i believe the stock wifi card is the 5100 which uses only 2 antennas.

If it works, let us know. I was looking to upgrade the stock card myself.

I think it'd be a pain in the to install, because there is one more antennae in the 5300.

You'd have to disassemble the screen and route the wire behind the lcd, maybe if someone made a guide.

    edit
-whoops, david had just said this.

    ...
if the asus notebook does have the unused 3rd antenna, does that mean you could just unplug the 5100, connect the 5300, and clip on the third wire.
    As easy as that?

I know that XoticPC can upgrade your g51vx to 5300 board, for $39 so it must be possible.
