At the moment no, only the 'a' version is being offered as a barebones.
Justin or another dealer maybe able to let you know if/when this may change

OMFG GTG ROFLMAO LOL IJCSFUA (can you guess that one, just made it up) J/K...

but seriously...the W3V is customizable at many resellers online. The barebones version, z63a, is also available, but it does not have the x600, it has intel integrated graphics.

He's ProPortable, an ASUS reseller who frequents these forums

And the w3v isn't a barebone, you get what the warehouse sends you.

Besides RAM, the w3v is a sweet setup already!

I feel like we're all hearing about your off the cuff learning of Asus' systems...... like this was a blog or something.

Listen, The W3v doesn't come in a barebone and we won't "customize" for you as doing so would void your Asus warranty which we aren't in the business of doing. However, you can do whatever you want to it. If you want to add ram you can. IF you want to change out the hard drive, you can. But the ensemble models come straight from Taiwan in a sealed package and must be sold that way.

Check your PM's...... I think I just explained this to you a little better in that message..... but basically if you want the dedicated graphics in that small of a system, buy the W3v and lets talk about what you really need to upgrade.... RAM isn't a problem for you to go without losing anything already in the system.

my problem is that i already got the CPU and HDD for cheap (like 170$ for both of them)

At first i've planned to get the Z63A and get parts off eBay and finish with a laptop that would cost close to 1000$.

    Z63A Barebone - 607$ maybe 50$ shipping
    Intel Pentium M 1.6, 533, 2MB Buffer, undervolt - 157.50 (brought)
    Toshiba 40gig 5200 16MB buffer - 54$ (brought)
    DDR2 533 1gb RAM - 100$
    Intel Wireless 2200 - 30$
Panasonic Slot Load Slim drive - 80$

So it comes to like 1078$ and i have everything like a W3V, minus the x600 video power... i've check online stores, W3V with similar setup, they quoted 1600-1700$ WTF?

We don't normally just sell the barebone, but if you need one, we'd be happy to help you out with one.

Just for your information though... good lucky getting that optical drive to work right in the unit. It's going to be a pain in the butt.

Notebook drives are essentially universal. However, every company does slightly different things to the drive they sell to make them a little more difficult for certain things...... like faceplate attachments. For you, you're probably not going to worry about that *much*.... At the same time, Asus does have to modify attachment points and faceplates to work with the design of the computer. That's what's going to cause you problems. You may not be able to screw it in and it *may not* fit with the faceplate that's on the slot load drive.

Now - speaking as a computer modder and nothing else..... I've modified Asus' faceplates to work on pioneer and panasonic slot load drives in the past. It's not something we really offer to customers as it's labor intensive and no one is really willing to pay it..... but it can be done. The only problem is, the only way *you* can get those parts you need is to get a drive Asus offers with the Z63a..... and ideally, a panasonic drive so the faceplate attachments are perfect. For that, you'd have to get Asus' 8x dvd burner, which is sort of a waste for you as you're already getting another drive.... Plus if you were to do it yourself with like something as simple as a dremel...... you'd probably screw up the first one anyway.

WE can NOT give you a W3v barebone..... no one can or will either. Everyone in the world comes sealed directly from Taiwan in the configuration we offer on our site. The z63a's however are something I believe is only done for the North American dealers in which we can start out with a unit to customize.

Asus has stated that their official standing is no notebook that isn't a complete "notebook" will be aloud to have their name on it. Was this sold with Asus' name on it or no? I mean this was Japan and I'm only really familiar with the North American and European (italy, uk) offices.... but that's what they say anyway.

it's an asus. i would be lurking in a no-name notebook forum otherwise :D

it's probably only available in japan, because the package i received was different to the w3v description in your site. no carrying case, no bluetooth, cd-rw/dvd, 3 cell battery (4? it lasts max 1:22'), and definitely a japanese keyboard

    with 1.86ghz, 1x1gb ddr2 533mhz, hitachi 100gb 5400rpm, teac dvd-rw, intel pro/wireless 2915 (uh yes, no wireless), it costs about 215000 Y. talking about big numbers..

No no... I mean the barebone models here don't have Asus' name anywhere on them and people will still consider them an Asus as they are at heart.........

You probably got a pretty good deal if you didn't get a lot of stuff... Wait.. that comes out to about $1,900 USD... I wouldn't say you got a deal as you still don't have bluetooth or the bigger battery........ or the accessories.... but if you were there and got it, it's no big deal.

...... If you need a US keyboard, I could hook you up if needed, but if you ordered it from Japan, you probably know a bit of japanese.....
