Hi,
I'm having a slight drama with my W3V where it won't wake up from hibernation or standby mode. I can't do anything to fix this and I thought I'd come up with a workaround by changing my power options settings in the control panel to Never go into hibernation on battery or plugged in but it still goes into hibernation after being idle for about 20 minutes. Why!!!!
Has anyone actually been able to solve this hibernation/standby bug for the W3V. I posted another query about this same problem a few weeks ago and someone suggested an idea where they drained the battery down to absolutely nothing which fixed it, however that didn't work for me. Anyone with an easier fix for this?
Cheers

um, ok im not sure why it is hibernating, but when it does go into hibernate whether on battery or plugged in, hit the power button for like 1 second, that may bring it back to life.
Other than that look at your FN + (functions) there may be something there.
Also go to your desktop and adjust the hibernate settings if possible.
Hope this helps,
Thanks,

Thanks for the suggestions Golem, but unfortunately hitting the power button does nothing. The screen is black, the blue leds on the front (indicating hard disk and power) are still on, the blue led on the power button is on. It's like the keyboard suddenly becomes unresponsive and the monitor won't turn back on. This happens sometimes when the screensaver activates as well, so I have that turned off all the time to prevent it from happening.
I have read about this problem with other users on these forums but I was never able to find out the best way to fix it. I think flashing the Bios was suggested but I'm wary of that, after reading about people who's laptops died on them after flashing the bios. I can't afford to be without my laptop so sending it in for a warranty repair is probably not an option. Surely this must be fixable. -
Go into your BIOS.
Look for "Execute Disable Bit"... make sure that function is DISABLED. If it's ENABLED, you will not be able to get out of Standby/Hibernate properly. -
Aurora,
Cheers for the help, but can you walk me through exactly what I need to do in the Bios, I'm not all that experienced doing this kind of thing and I don't want to f it up
Thanks -
I found something called "Execute Disable Function" in the Advanced Menu under CPU configuration.
It was already set to disabled.
I guess that isn't the solution for my problem then. My BIOS is v02.58 is this version known to have issues with standby/hibernation?
Thanks once again to all those that are trying to assist me. -
You really should update the Bios its not that hard. and its pretty safe. also you may have something corrupt within windows itsself.

Alright can I ask for someone to post a link to take me through that process step by step (updating the bios I mean).
Sorry for all the rookie demands. -
Firstly, you have to download WinFlash if you don't already have it installed:
http://dlsvr01.asus.com/pub/ASUS/nb/W3A/WinFlash_XP_2K_050914.zip
Then, you have to download the new BIOS image. Version 0602A is the newest one I was able to find:
http://dlsvr01.asus.com/pub/ASUS/nb/W3V/W3V0602A.zip
Simply unzip the BIOS image to say, your desktop, then run the WinFlash program. Select the BIOS image from the program, and it will tell you if the BIOS image is compatible with your notebook (which is should be). Flash, and it should tell you to restart after it's done.
Restart, and you're good to go. -
Did you happen to have updated the Ethernet driver (Marvell) via Windows Update before the hibernation/standby problems began? If so, switch the driver back to the older version that came with the laptop. The old driver is very stable compared to the wireless drivers.
You can enable the Execute Disable Bit as long as you have the latest BIOS on the laptop. That, however, does not quite explain why the laptop goes into hibernation by itself. Do you have some CPU undervolting software installed? For example, I've found that some versions of RMClock do not respect the users' setting for hibernation/standby time. -
