    Can someone please tell me the fastest & most safest way to OC Nvidia Geforce GTX 260M to Nvidia factory settings.

    I know that this has been explained to death here in the forums but there are so many topics on this and I don't feel like reading 200+ pages of posts. If possible can what I'm asking for be explained in lamens terms? I've read so many places that the 260M GPU is downclocked by Asus. I've also read posts where some people claimed that the standard 250M outperforms Asus's underclocked 260M. If this is true....I've got to get my GPU to Nvidia specs. Even though I am pleased with my G71's performance it kinda annoys me to know that Asus crippled my GPU from the factory. Even the newer models ship with this handicap. Maybe Asus should do whatever it is to rectify this problem instead of sweeping it under the carpet.

    Thanks in advance :D

    The only way Asus would "fix it" is to sell you an entirely new laptop with a decent internal thermal design. They downclocked it because the GPU gets too hot for their comfort.

    The underclocked GTX 260M on asus is similar to 9800M GTX. You don't really need to get to the original stock speed in order to play games at high quality.

    oops yea just replace the 6.02 with 6.05 in the URL.

    All in all you'll probably get like 10% more FPS. Probably not too noticable to the naked eye but the placebo effect will make it feel much smoother :)

    The difference between stock 500/800/1250 and my clocks of 600/1000/1550 is not even close to 10%.

    As with all video cards, they determine "playability" levels. It is not necessarily the raw FPS you achieve, but what is playable at 1920x1200, with 2XAA, an additional level of detail etc.

    It could also mean your playing experience looks like crap or looks like candy.

    Thanks for the info. Does anyone have any suggestions/settings for getting the 260M to Nvidia settings with 6.05?

    well say you were getting 30fps at a certain resolution with 2xAA. Now you're getting 33fps. So you can trade those extra fps for a little more AA and go back down to 30, but you'll have nicer quality.

    In my case, the difference wouldn't be 10%, more like 15-20% (5+ FPS) difference in FPS.

    That could mean going up another resolution, or maxing out some details or getting smoother framerates... up to you.

    Simple. INstall NTunes. Set your clocks to default 550/1375/950.

    yup yup. I was talking about the OP going from ASUS stock to regular nVidia spec. For your clocks I would imagine it would closer to 15-20% like you said.

    going from 500 -> 550 is 10%

    going from 500 -> 600 is 20%

    pretty sure it doesn't scale that linear in FPS but probably not too far from it.

    6.05 works the same as 6.02.

    EDIT: if you don't see a performance tab, open it via the start menu first under the Nvidia control panel folder. I guess they changed that for 6.05.

    Actually it does scale fairly linearly in FPS both in games and in synthetic applications. Memory also plays a role here so it will increase or decrease the potential FPS output depending on the throughput ratio with the core/shader.

    Coolio. I broke 10k in 3dmark06 with stock GPU clocks and CPU @2.4 so I'm pretty happy. But I just ordered some of those copper heat sinks after reading that thread. I don't want to clock to 550 until those get installed. I've gone from not knowing overclocking existed to buying copper heat sinks in about 48 hours from reading this forum... lol. thinking bout firing up the drill too

    Though if anyone could answer the question I posted at the end of the G51 optimization thread I'd be thankful.

    Thank you guys so much!! I have raised the clocked speeds to Nvidia factory settings with Nvidia Tools 6.05. I have noticed an increase in FPS in SFIV, RE5, UT3 & MW2 so far. I have also noticed an increase in GPU temp. Normally idling my temp is 55-57 and now after OC it's 59-64. My max temp before the OC while gaming was 74 now my max GPU temp is 76. It definetly was worth it. Now I can sleep at night :D

    I noticed many who overclock the 260M leave their memory speed relatively lower than core and shader compared to reference speeds. I.e. core and shader will be higher than nVidia reference but memory will actually be lower. Why is this?

    Because OCing the memory will have a lower effect at the low resolution of the most common one (RX05) and produces higher heat :performance ratio. with core 600 memory 825 and shader 1500 I hit a nice smooth maximum of 77C in furmark, with my memory up to 950 I hit 88 and stabilize (barely) at 81c

    Can someone tell me how to make Nvidia tools remember my OC settings after rebooting? I have rebooted several times and they always go back to default clocks.

    Never mind I figured it out. That setting rules for profiles is confusing at first but now I see the need for it.
