    Hey there,

I got a G1 back January this year, but house was burglared; took alot of stuff including my new G1.

So, I'm planning to get the G1s next month. I have a feeling I will not enjoy Vista and also need extra frame rates for games. Can I use the old G1 WinXP recovery CD on the new G1s so that I can downgrade it?

Sorry if this question was asked before, but I couldn't find a topic about it.

Oh yeah, another noob question, with your new G1s, how much space did Vista & other Asus programs take on the hard drive? Was thinking if it's not too much, I'll just partition of Vista as little space possible and use the rest of the hard drive for WinXP Pro.

Not to burst your bubble. But, after you streamline Vista (Which takes only an hour or so), and you upgrade your drivers you should be fine. Pretty much all games work on Vista, and the FPS difference between XP and Vista are minimal.... So, you have to decide whether its worth the downgrade.

i suppose i can add: i want my system to run better overall without having to encounter issues down the road. i don't want the hassle of having to reformat everything later, i'd rather do it when i first get my new notebook.

so has any1 tried using the old G1 recovery CD to install XP in G1s?

I don't know whether it will work. It might check that it is on the correct system (mainboard ID etc.) But you can try...

Also make sure you do not insert the drivers CD when requested; not all the components are the same. Instead, download correct XP drivers yourself and install them manually.
